Man really need to get back on in a bad way. Weird when you get in a rhythm it is hard to miss days riding and then when you get in a rut so hard to get back on.
Have been really bad about riding the past year. Like you said, just couldn’t get over the hump and get back into a good routine for whatever reason. Finally back on, this is my 2nd week of riding consistently. The couple days I didn’t ride I kept feeling like I was missing something with my day. Hoping I can keep things going now.
Yeah that combined with first year with the little one was tough. When I thought I would get in a rhythm house would get sick or get busy and lose progress. Probably just gonna reset my PowerZones and get some ‘quick’ progress to get me motivated again.
This year has sucked from my torn shoulder and bicep to now my calf tattoos I figured it could not have gone any worse. I’ll stay app only until the new year and hopefully I’ll be back. One thing that has helped me is getting my stack ready the night before that way I don’t have to search for a class to do (which especially sucks on the app).
Tried the YTTV feature for the first time today. Was pretty cool until I tried to turn up the volume and it crashed everything lol I was like 2 minutes away from being done so wasn’t a huge deal except for the fact it wouldn’t let me resume or end the ride even though it said “in progress” under the history screen.
Bummer - I did my 500th ride live today and didn’t get a shoutout. I’ve only done like 3-4 live rides before (usually do recorded rides late after work). What percent of milestones usually get a shout out ?
I did live rides for each of mine on the hundred and finally gave up for 800 a couple weeks ago because I’ve never gotten it
Years Before COVID they were pretty good but now seems there's probably too many people to get everyone. I saved the ones where I got a shout out but they were all lost in the Purge with the music lawsuit. So I said fuck it. Haven't take A live one in a few years. Being on Mtn time doesn't line up very well.
Buddy got up early on a Saturday to do his 100th with Denis in hopes of getting a shout out...only for Denis to start the ride off with some bullshit like, "remember, you're riding for yourself today, not to hear me call out your name!"
Yeah I think there were 1,700 people in the class live yesterday. If 10% were doing milestones that's still 170 I guess and they probably only give 10-15 per ride Probably everyone getting bikes around the same vintage in summer 2020 is lining up for a lot of 500, 700, 1000, etc. right now
Callie G does a scroll of her milestone classes on IG after she does the class. It is way more than I ever thought. 1,000 isn’t even a notable. As others have mentioned, you can delete rides and it takes you back to your milestone if you care to. I don’t.
That's a really long time to listen to music as bad as Wilpers plays, but I'm tempted. Done quite a few 90 minute rides.
I’ve said this before but for whatever reason I like his PZ classes best (or I’m just a creature of habit) but I’ll turn on the captions and just listen to my own music. I do like how the PZ you’re in now shows on your FTE bar so you don’t even need to listen.
I’m going to attempt to do a 45min one today. I’ve been back on the bike for a few weeks now and was doing 30min PZE classes to get back into things. Stepping it up to 45 just to make up for lost time and also remind myself I can do it (hopefully)
Welp, made it to the other side of the ride lol 13.72mi 373kj 752cal Nothing compared to most in here I’m sure but longest ride since I re-started riding a few weeks ago.
Seems like a lot of you do powerzone in here. I’ve never done one…what is the advantage of it vs regular classes? Don’t you have to take a whole series of classes just to determine your zones? Or can I just jump right into one?
I believe the series is kind of a “preparation” for the test. I did not do the series, I just did the test after I had been riding consistently for like six months and finally discovered PZ. The FTE Test is what calculates your zones, I think it’s 20min but you basically push it as hard as you can the whole time. That said, you don’t NEED the test it just makes it way easier when you know your zones and can stay in them (there’s a graphic on your screen after the test). At the start of each PZ ride during the warmup they kind of explain the zones and tell you how to find them if you haven’t done the test. I like these rides because they feel a little more customized and flexible, where they can say goto Zone __ and it’s not a specific cadence/resistance it’s based on your actual zone. It does get a bit repetitive, because there’s not as much change, out of saddle, etc.
Also I think they recommend taking the test every 6-8 weeks (or when it becomes too easy or hard) that way you can constantly be in a good spot depending on how much you have or haven’t rode lately, etc.
Some of the advantages: 1) You know in advance what you are signing up for regarding intensity. You won’t accidentally wind up in a Dennis heavy metal ride setting a PR if you are shooting for an endurance building day. Alternatively, if you want a hard day, you won’t accidentally end up in a ride where the suggested outputs are too low for you and burn a ride on something that isn’t your goal. 2) I feel like it is far closer to the running that I enjoy - I can just hit an ideal cadence and get lost in my thoughts compared to having to focus on “where am I on the instructors target output? Is that too hard / easy? How long am I here? Did I miss that call out?” 3) It is far easier to train with Powerzone instead of just ride. You will see the improvement and you won’t just be gunning for PRs and every ride - which doesn’t generally lead to good results.
I did the 120 minute ride live. I’ve done many 90 minute ones, love power zone, etc. that ride was fuckin tough. That extra 30 minutes from 90-120 was absolutely killer. The whole ride was a bit of a mind fuck. Like when your an hour in and you still have an hour to go. I was really excited for it so I came out of the gate a little too quick. The playlist wasn’t bad - I never had to mute the ride and turn on my own music anyway. He says the number of songs at the beginning of the ride - think it was 34. If you’re interested in PZ training check out pzpack.com. They do 4-8 week challenges where you can do anywhere from 2-4 rides a week. They have scored all the PZ rides on the platform with a difficulty rating and they plan challenges using this rating. Typically the classes start out easy and pyramid up in difficulty before tapering at the end if you want to take your FTP. You can link your account and pay 10 bucks a month to get advanced metrics. I haven’t done that yet. I like the challenges though because my week is programmed for me. I just ride the next ride each day.
I did a 120 minute ride a long time ago about 40 miles had bananas and gel packs for energy during the ride. Was cool and wouldn’t mind doing one again. This was when I rode outdoors more so I was accustomed to riding that long. Not so much now
Already some good replies, but also take a look at bike training videos that discuss tempo riding. Overall, Peloton has been a huge positive for me, but I was overtraining thanks to being goaded on by the rah-rah coaches and class instruction. Pro riders have moved a lot more in the direction of the importance of tempo (lower heart rate zones, distance over short bursts, less heavy interval exertions, etc.). Power Zone Endurance is the closest class to that in my understanding (not an expert). I don't actually ride Power Zone classes, I just do long scenic rides now with my own tempo intervals while watching sports or videos. I save my heavy intervals for skiing, hiking/mountain climbing, and just use Peloton for Tempo. I mix-up my tempo exertion levels and exertion lengths, but I don't go near the red zone. If you only Peloton, the Power Zone set of classes offers you tempo rides and occasional hard days for some red zone training.
It doesn’t matter. She can yell at me in whatever language she wants. Spoiler She does both English and German.
Just took Emma’s latest HIIT class. Matt did the class plan and honestly I can see why so many people like his teaching style. I wish Emma had more structured stuff like that. I will say the camera man understood the assignment. One of favorite classes I’ve taken in a while.
im app right now but in January I’m gonna have my subscription be bike based so I can’t wait to see my actual numbers. It’s a fun and challenging class.
Matt Wilper's knowledge for running is without peer on the Peleton platform imo. His music selection leaves a lot to be desired, but he has helped my running immensely in terms of recovery, pace, breathing, and avoiding pain/injury, and I've been a pretty decent runner for a while. I'm not sure how he is on the bike, but his running classes are like a PHD class compared to the others that just tell you how great you look and how proud they are of you.
It had been a while since I’ve done one of the Jess Sims bootcamp rides, and decided to do the recent 60 minute one. Completed it to a T and man I wanted to die during it. Probably a sign I need to do more.
realized it immediately when the page loaded and I was like “Why is the ACC thread talking about Jess Sims?”
