Looking very likely that there will be a a multi-national war. Russia absolutely sees this as an opportunity to escalate. Dont think China is quite ready to start their Taiwan plans, but theyll test the US to see if they can handle 3 fronts. The US is politically weak with a congress that lacks resolve. The world knows that. The first $10B “aid package” for Israel will pass, but every “aid package “ for Ukraine and elsewhere will tell the story of just how far china and russia will go. This is what happens when influence has more weight to it than security and resources. Its been a flawed pillar of US foreign policy for 75 years.
Biden's discussions in the coming days will probably be the most influential few days of his presidency (and possibly much longer). I wonder what will win out -- "c'mon man, knock it off with the violence malarkey" or empire's war machine goes brrr
I can’t see Russia or China wanting anything to do with a war here. They both play off both sides of this. Going one way or the other could rupture the BRICS which wouldn’t be good for either’s long term strategic interests.
Russia can’t do shit anyway, the sheer quantity of what they could produce / sell / export is severely hampered at the moment
Cant believe the folks that targeted shelters and fleeing refugees, who specifically went on TV to argue that every palestinian is a rotten demented animal, and promised to bomb the hospital within a day so evacuate the dying and sick (to where?), got blamed when a rocket hit the hospital. So weird
Russias already at war and China is gonna handle Taiwan as they see fit at some point. Not sure I see how BRICS keeps either from doing what they are doing or will do
I had this exact conversation with a crazy MAGA guy yesterday, he was like brrr brrr Putin and Russia are gonna get involved I was like with what? Their military is absolutely fucked right now
Yeah and look at how Russia were intertwined with Israel post Western sanctions Russia will troll to piss off the West (and may even have with the Hamas attack, though doubtful) but I can’t see any broad world war here. The enemy of enemy is my friend stuff only lasts for so much.
In our attempt to launch a rocket, a hospital was hit. Yes, we threatened to do that very thing. No, you may not have access to the site or any information regarding the incident.
It certainly seems too early to say - and it's not good for anyone to scour twitter for videos of carnage and try and play sherlock holmes. Biden claiming DoD intelligence feels pretty major, though. if the failed rocket launch turns out to be the case, we'll have to adjust the statistics to show that Israel has only bombed 34 hospitals, not 35. (https://www.emro.who.int/opt/news/hospitals-in-the-gaza-strip-at-a-breaking-point-warns-who.html). can't believe people would suggest Israel is capable of such atrocities!
Would that be from Israel? Im sure at this point the US has been monitoring with all sorts of technology?
Im sure they have technology, but I would think access to the location would be very useful in the process of gathering data. Just my .02
I think what Biden said seems to most likely be accurate, but I sure would like to see some confirmation from the Europeans. Joe lost a lot of credibility with that whole, “ I saw the photos of decapitated babies, oh wait no I didn’t,” disaster.
And I may have to pull out the old Drill tweet, but you almost have to hand it to Hamas. They accidentally bomb their own hospital and managed to turn it into a PR coup.
I understand not trusting Israel, but my goodness the trust in Hamas is something I am struggling to wrap my head around.
There’s a natural tendency to distrust Israeli accounts, which is well deserved—bc they will lie and dissemble all day long to cover up their atrocities. So I’m perfectly good distrusting Israeli narratives, but that shouldn’t lead us to automatically accepting Hamas narratives. Lot of egg on face today.
Also, I don’t necessarily think believing stuff like yesterday is equivalent to believing Hamas. Not trying to spin it because I am guilty, but there were plenty of big names reporting on it. CNN, BBC, and Al Jazeera to name three
The news media outlets are the ones I was referring to about egg on face. They basically took a Hamas press release and reported it as fact. And as mentioned earlier, they did the same with the headless babies (which I assume was false now that nobody mentions it), so that's twice in two of the most emotional situations that they've taken one side's version of events and just reported it as fact without any independent verification. Just careless and irresponsible reporting.
the blame needs to go to the organizations who reported it the way they did. I don’t blame any individual person for trusting CNN/BBC/NYT among others when they push the information out in the way that they did. None of those organizations should have taken the information and ran with it without serious caveats. “Palestinian health authority says” is not enough of a caveat for something that could legitimately expand this small war into a major one involving numerous countries. I was skeptical that it was Israel for 2 reasons. Israel doesn’t care about world condemnation but they do care what the US president thinks. Would Israel bomb a hospital if they thought they could kill top Hamas guys regardless of damage? Yes but would they on the eve of Biden’s trip? I don’t think so. the 500 deaths were also reported far too quickly. Remember how the number of killed on the day of the attack in Israel was reported. I’m not sure the death number got over 70 for the entire first day. Didn’t get over 1000 for 3 or 4 days. Gaza is running out of food and water and in the middle of a humanitarian disaster. How can they come up with a death total that high within 1 hour of the explosion? I don’t expect everyday people to hold themselves to this standard but major news media needs to.
Um, what? If anything they are very meticulous about civilian deaths in particular, as you'd expect for a democracy that is trying to get people to take them seriously.
Great news although this has been reported already so I want to see the aid go through the border before fully cheering this on.
I know Israel claimed to provide intel, but one would have to imagine we have plenty of monitoring going on in that area to form our own conclusions.
‘will allow the entry of humanitarian aid’ - The US is working with, funding, and arming the government that is shutting off access to water, food, and electricity that makes this hunanitarian aid necessary. If they really cared about humanitarian aid maybe you’d just prevent it in the first place
Palestinian Islamic Jihad is…literally the name of the organization? It’s like saying United States Army Rocket.
Whatever happens, I hope Israel doesn't attack one of our naval ships like they did 60 years ago during another war.
