Talent is an issue, but they’re also not well coached. There are too many times they have no idea who they are supposed to block.
As good as the catch was, I think the throw was just as impressive. He dropped it right into marvs hands
Yeah, it was a great throw. McCord found his rhythm late. We have first world problems when our QB has a bad day, going 19/29 320 2 TDS and 0 ints. And he did have a bad day.
Every OSU OL coach will be criticized when their unit can't do anything well on the field, and they constantly miss on priority recruits. Stud obviously covered the OL room in gasoline and lit a match on the way out, but Frye isn't exactly making lemonade out of lemons.
I just don’t get the 2 TE sets. It was essentially our base offense, but the TE’s aren’t targeted in the pass game and the run game sucks. So what the fuck is Day doing running Gee Scott out there instead of Emeka or Fleming? For some reason he refuses to put the best personnel out there. Until he does, this offense will continue to be mediocre.
And we still ran like shit. Day has no clue what to do with this offense and the personnel we have. He’s always preached 50/50, and I think he refuses to deviate from that, even tho we’re not capable.
Exactly. Just embrace that you’re a throwing team. Why the fuck else do you recruit all of these 5 star receivers and QB’s? That doesnt make you soft.
I thought the crowd was really good for a Maryland noon kickoff when the tailgate hours were decently frigid....it was packed at kickoff. I've always thought the OSU crowd appreciates better defense more than offense and the loudest moments of the day were definitely the interceptions and fourth down stops. All that being said, there was a woman that sat in front and to the side of yankeye and me that sat like I've never seen a person sit before. She sat OVER the bleacher....so her full ass was on the concrete where the people behind her were sitting...and I don't think she got up the entire game. An absolutely stunning way to sit...just look at where the dude's seat back is that is next to her..
I am really shocked at how limited McCord's arm has been. From the first play of the game, and even of his biggest passes. I'm not saying he has to hit Marv and Fleming in stride, but damn, don't make them come to a full stop. Proctor, Ransom, Styles good God! Burke laying the wood, Hancock was good, thought he got beat on a great throw. Think they went after Styles a little bit covering the tight end or the back and had some success, but no way he should be coming off the field before Tommy or Steele. I don't remember anything the LBs did well today.
There was a point late 3rd or early 4th quarter where the defense was really laying the wood on tackles and on back to back plays a Maryland player went to the sidelines just shaking the cobwebs out when they got there. It seemed like it was over to me then.
I'm glad we won and made it look better than it was but something has to change on the offensive line and no one should be safe at this point. Matt Jones just doesn't move well at all and he can't play guard with what we ask our guards to do. Donovan looks tough but just is way too fucking nice. Figure it out and bless up.
Thought JT was great, Sawyer idk Still has time to click but can’t believe this was the guy who went Khalil Mack mode on Paris Johnson in last year’s spring game
Fryar pulling and blocking his own lineman then the 1 play Jones just decided not to block the linebacker right in front of him on the rare play set up for success was pretty baffling We’re very dumb right now
Has a team ever won 3 straight national championships outside of Yale in the 19th century? Feel like Georgia is the only good team this year, and they're not even that great. Everyone else sucks. No exceptions.
HotMic’s HotTakes: 1. Ryan Day will never be a championship-level head coach until he stops try to prove things to people that don’t matter. We’re several years into it being painfully obvious that this isn’t a physical, line it up and run it right at you roster…yet here we are, still trying to pretend we are. When he chooses to play to the team’s strengths and opens it up, they roll. Which brings me to point 2. 2. The OL play and coaching is unacceptable at a school like Ohio State. The talent at the position is severely lacking, but I watch OL’s with equal or lesser talent out performing Ohio State’s week after week. You can’t convince me that’s the best we can can do, both from a coaching and personal standpoint. It has to improve, or it will cost them a game. 3. Kyle has to start trusting himself, because it really shows on the throws when he doesn’t. Great bounce back in the second half today, but he left points on the field a few times. 4. Marv is incredible. 5. Stover is such a great weapon in the passing game. I thought they needed to use him more often. 6. The DL was great today in my opinion. Hall and Williams are so disruptive on the inside, and I thought Jack and JTT got adequate pressure. 7. I thought the LB’er play would rebound this week, but it left a lot to be desired. The two worst defensive plays today were Steele getting schooled on the TD run and Tommy whiffing on a TFL that led to a first down. Those guys can’t let those plays happen. 8. CB’s were solid and the safeties were outstanding. Holding Maryland to what they did was impressive. 9. Save one drive, the defense was nails yet again. Grandpa is slowly winning me back, now let’s do that against PSU and Michigan.
Louisville DL all over Hartman Feel we could be a bit more exotic with blitzes while also not going kamikaze. First experiment, release Sonny
Sawyer hasn’t made one standout play in 5 games this year. Doesn’t feel like he’s good enough to play as many snaps as he does.
got into a horrific accident last night that i’m lucky to be alive from. car flipped multiple times have glass shards being removed and a spinal injury and brutally painful neck injury. i avoided 2 deer driving home. somehow i am not paralyzed even though i should be. i’ve lived a hard life which i am ashamed of but have been sober for a few months. everyday is precious don’t waste a god damn minute please hug your families loved ones strangers children grandparents and friends. don’t take a single second for granted like i have for a long time. i’m done and i’m living my life with joy in my heart because i was saved by a miracle i will never understand last night. i love you all and am very proud to call all you my friends from the bottom of my heart. there is literally nothing fucking sexier hotter more handsome and with an 11.5 inch thick veined horse hog than safeties that light your ass up and we got 3 of those warlords baby! ransom is a fucking stud deluxe period. proctor if he lines you up it is 100% night night time hardest hitter on the team for like 4 years running while wearing the best most terribly amazing number #41 while looking god tier doing it. if sonny styles gets a shot at you this year but especially next he will ring your bell into next weekend like a freight train from hell. all 3 of our guys back there will SMOKE your ass GUARANTEED if you are coming across the middle. that’s the fucking defense I LOVE boys hope everyone is ok and doing really well happy safe and healthy. -Will
I'm less frustrated with the play calling this week than the execution. When our offense clicks, the threat of the run exists and makes passing more effective. We've got to be able to run the ball to do what we want to do.
I can't fathom what keeps Parker Fleming employed. I just heard Day say that wasn't a called fake. He's so fucking bad at his job.
I fucking hate Parker but not sure how a slipped snap is on him, Fehrmann(think that’s his name) is very experienced Our return game is absolutely fucking trash with athletes we have.
My only beef with hotmic’s post was saying Day will never have what it takes He’s shown he does multiple times but at many other times can’t get out of his own way The stubbornness is ridiculous
Fleming gets zero benefit of the doubt. If you told me he told the snapper it was a fake and no one else I would absolutely believe it.
Didn’t say he can’t, just that he won’t until he quits trying to prove he’s something that he just isn’t. I agree with what you’re saying 1000%.
I don’t see an obvious change, they’re all pretty equally mediocre Maybe Montgomery for Simmons but when a true freshman gives up a couple big sacks which seems likely Just air it out, pass to set up the run. Not vice versa
Speaking of Day being stubborn to the detriment of the team… I can’t take Parker at all, but he’s not all to blame. It’s been obvious for three seasons that he doesn’t add much of anything in recruiting or on the field, yet one man is choosing to keep him around and give him raises.
I want to see that call on Ryan Day again too. I hate belaboring the officiating complaints because, among other things, officials aren't the ones missing blocks and under throwing receivers. But there was some real fucky stuff happening today, especially in the second half.
I think guards are the biggest issue. They don't move people backwards on combo blocks and they can't get to the second level. I want Tegra at guard.
I had no idea what to expect out of Jayden Fielding going into this year...and still don't know how big of a leg he has...but, he's been a pleasant surprise so far this year. Seems like a good kicker.
