Our short yardage run game remains a concern. It’s play calling. It’s execution. It’s not good. Donovan Jackson is supposed to be our best, but he was shit today on two key short yardage situations. I look at the pass game like this, what do we learn or improve if Egbuka and Harrison get 24 targets today? Nothing. We know what we have there and it’s not some kind of failure to target the guys we don’t know about in the first game of the year against Indiana when we should be trying to sharpen our game in the areas that need it. As noted above, I’m very happy with the variety in our pass game among TEs, RBs, Fleming in the middle of the field. We already know what Egbuka and Marv can do.
I hung out with them all afternoon, midway through the first quarter ppl were talking about firing Day. Y’all’s fanbase is wildin
We can discuss this further when DJ Bosa and I are in your man cave with your wife bringing down dinner....but, he's on the struggle bus from what I've seen
I don’t get complaining about pass rush, think we had like 2 blitzes all game and they were run blitzes Mike Hall is also our most talented DL, Kenyatta was pretty disappointing with all the rave reviews. Looked incredibly stiff
I need to rewatch the game as I couldn’t focus on it for large portions, but here are a couple thoughts McCord is the starter, that much is clear after today. I generally think he will figure it out and will be a high quality starter. The OL issues today aren’t all that surprising in hindsight. 3 new players with 2 new tackles. Indiana seemed to be shooting LBs constantly and were firing gaps. I think they will settle in and find a rhythm. the bad… Days playcalling today is a continued trend from last year. The stretch runs into the boundary and lack of creativity on short yardage are infuriating. I understand being conservative because of a new QB, but these were problems we saw for most of last year with a stud QB. I don’t know what the answer is, but Day needs to find a way to be more creative with running plays and running designs.
indiana also threw like six passes through three quarters. thought the pass rush was disruptive when they abandoned the option late
Did anyone else think Indiana’s stadium looked smaller on the CBS broadcast aerial shots than it has in the past on ABC/ESPN, or am I just crazy?
WKU beat USF 41-24 and they threw for 336 yards. Glad we'll at least get a passing test before the ND game
Our opponents are 9-1 so far, with Penn State looking to push it to 10-1 and Rutgers playing tomorrow. Purdue shit the bed.
Interested to see if they decide to just name McCord the permanent starter now. It might make sense to give each qb a half next week, but I don't know how much longer they want to stretch this out
I still hope Gary Danielson has a stroke while squatting on a brutal dildo in the hotel room tonight.
Did a complete watch/rewatch and I came away feeling a lot better than I did watching live. McCord seemed to settle into the game in the second half. I think he finds his rhythm next week. I actually think Treveyon had a solid game. OL play and play calling didn’t do him favors, but still liked his runs. Chip in the RB/FB/H back role is lethal.. he had a hell of a game and I think he is perfect in that role. Defense looked legit today. DBs looked to have taken a massive step forward and the LBs will continue to be good. I thought we did a good job at generating pressure. Only so much you can do with 21 total pass attempts, and even that number is inflated. Overall I feel better about the team than I did in the moment. Still have some concerns with short yardage and play calling, but a lot to take from it.
I go back to the repeated theme from me tonight. No one should give a shit that Egbuka and Harrison didn’t go for 10/120 a piece. You use the Indiana game to get better in areas where you aren’t. TE/RB went 9/130 with a ton of key first downs. Fleming went 6/58, largely over the middle. Everyone is wringing their hands because we didn’t score 40. We worked on exactly what we needed to work on. Target Egbuka and Marv 25 times against ND. Force ND to realize, shit, we have to account for these other guys.
My only hope is that, by Labor Day Weekend, the bald spot at the back of my head is suntanned. Otherwise, I’m dead.
I want Brown to start next week, what I saw today wasn't anywhere near good enough. I'm not ready to say who I think should start against ND but I don't know how anyone could argue the book is closed on the QB battle.
