I’m not sure you’ll be able to solve this lack of connection. They may continue to squeak by defensively but Sweden won’t have 0 shots on target (and 1 post).
Thank the post for the draw. I thought Rapinoe would provide a spark when she came in, but her passes were mostly bad and her decisions didn’t reflect her experience. She actually whiffed on a volley. Morgan isn’t dangerous anymore. Rose was the only one playing with intensity, and she is out against Sweden.
She’s also saying nothing again. Just sounds like someone with an axe to grind. Just “I don’t see passion” but no insight to style of play or tactics or anything else. The players look like they are trying plenty. There are just no connections between any of them. Tacticless crap and a coach just waiting for someone to do something. she is right to be frustrated with USSF but her commentary just sounds petty against the players. Just trying to be female Lalas I guess.
I could understand her initial comments at the end because she is frustrated like the fans. The ongoing is just sour grapes right now.
Lloyd has been griping about “culture” for years now. You know what you’re going to get with her, and she should be given the same amount of attention you would give Lalas.
Seems a bit like you guys don't know what you are talking about regarding our issues. They just don't create enough scoring chances. I see a lack of skill and even coordination on the field. Watching England right now and they simply look much better. USWNT appears to really struggle when they don't have a significant physical advantage like they did against Vietnam. Haven't seen this mentioned once, but I've seen about 20 posts bitching about the coach
exactly. England has scored more goals against China in 45 minutes than the USWNT in the entire tournament.
I guess you read poorly, because it was about the skill level. It's not like he can call plays like an offensive coordinator and scheme a goal. If you know anything you can see some teams clearly have skill and the USWNT is lacking it overall.
Im sorry bro, the USWNT players all have skill that would get most of our starters (not even thinking about our injured starters) into every country in the worlds starting line up save for maybe the top 5-10 players in the world that are on other teams. And in fact, coaches tactics in soccer are like an offensive coordinator scheming a goal lol. You think we can’t scheme one because our team isn’t running any plays, or as it’s called in soccer “patterns of play”. That’s on the coach… are you serious right now?
we have one goal in two games on a set play. So I guess good on the coach and in the flow of the game our world class players aren't as good as you think they are. People who I'm sure know a lot more about the game than you are also pointing to the players and the lack of scoring chances.
A lot of these are the same players who have been winning trophies in the past, and some of the best young players in the world.
Couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on then saw “Show ignored content” Please don’t waste your time guys
they've won trophies with this coach too. I remember watching teams from the past that had significantly more talent. I've seen things on the field that have not been impressive and have nothing to do with scheme. I see more class with other teams that have nothing to do with the coach. They often look clumsy and uncoordinated, which is not coaching. i know typical tmb groupthink is going to take over, but just thought I would offer this take.
To be fair, Rapinoe did the exact same thing against Vietnam so I'm not sure why she's expected to perform against better teams than that
Gonna break this down. 1) they have not won a major trophy with Vlatko. In fact, the Olympic campaign was also a historic failure under Vlatko. 2) A coach is very much responsible for the patterns of play. Also known as the cohesiveness this team doesn’t have. 3) Previous teams didn’t have anymore talent than this team does. They just had that much more talent than the rest of the world. 4) since you mentioned England specifically in an earlier. They won the Euros specifically because they got a world class coach. To sum it up, coaching matters significantly when you are no longer 20x better than every other team, but make no mistake this team is just as talented as any other
I didn't say coaching didn't matter. Of course it matters. But when you are limited in skill the coach can't somehow make you better. I've just seen no reference to the players taking any accountability. I don't think they are just as talented and that is my point - if you know what you are watching, you are seeing more talent and class on display elsewhere than the USWNT has shown at any point in this tournament. If we had the talent we should've been able to waltz into the Portugal game and win regardless of coaching.
The idea that the US is lacking talent is just so wildly not true even with the key injuries. If the US played ok in the group and then got bounced by Spain (who also suffered a pretty shocking loss) then ok…maybe have the conversation. But to look out of sync against both Vietnam and Portugal is not a sign of the great closing of the skill gap. I’m also not sure how to judge Alex. She’s looked really dangerous at times but also pretty alone. “Send the ball to the forwards and hope one of them does something” isn’t a game plan.
They have talent, just less than in the past compared to the competition. The difference in coaching isn't going to be so much that it completely stifles a "loaded" team like this. The leadership angle is also on the players. Carli Lloyd is bashing them and it's making people upset, but she knows what she is talking about.
I have been watching this team, for a long time. If you go back and read this thread, it’s me and 1 or 2 other people posting regularly before the WC. So I also know “what to watch for”. And you’ll notice that I’ve been complaining about Vlatko for a long time, not just since the WC started
cool I've watched the USWNT since the 90s when they have played actual competition and this team isn't on that level of past teams. Morgan is past her prime and Horan is the only player I see that could hang.
You know what, if your opinion is Horan is our only world class player, then we really have no common ground.
that's fine. keep bitching about the coach while our players screw up scoring chances or just don't create them at all. I don't care. The #1 team should be able to roll the ball out in a do or die game and win against the #20 team. Think it's more than coaching, but of that helps you sleep better at night then sweet dreams. I guess Carli Lloyd is wrong and you know more than her.
Dammit I don’t know why I’ll respond but I don’t recall her ever saying the players weren’t talented enough or less talented. Like ever. Her whole thing is about attitude and desire to the point she just sounds like an old baseball man complaining about young dudes flipping bats
something literally every soccer fan says about literally every coach. That was a part of my reasoning that the players are more of an issue now than the coaching. They were ripping the players after the game for the way they were carrying themselves. There is some talent. A lot of the talent you are probably talking about will be playing in their last World Cup like Rapinoe, Morgan and Ertz because their best days are behind them. Some good young talent like Smith. Just think the international class we talk about the USMNT missing overall compared to their peers is starting to become evident with the USWNT. I'm sure coaching is a part of it, but the sloppiness I see dribbling and passing the ball is what I'm referring to.
