Over-the-top rich guy who has to let everyone know how wealthy and successful he is isn’t my cup of tea and like I said I just scroll by I do find the contrast of posters attitude towards wealthy people in other threads and their attitude towards Eathan somewhat interesting though
personalizing politics is usually a bad idea. I also think there’s daylight between a restauranteur and billionaires.
That has not been my perception of him at all. You should know this makes you sound insecure and jealous.
Eathan doesn’t usually hold forth on stuff unless asked. He’s not like “shock linwood” starting 10 threads about how rich and badass he is
One Two is right, try to up your weight lifting. Semaglutide seems to take more lean mass (muscle/bone) than fat relative to non semaglutide weight loss: https://peterattiamd.com/the-downsi...utm_content=230219-newsletter-glp1agonists-li Body composition is more important than weight loss
Not necessarily related to this matter, but I hate this meme that if you're a leftist/ socialist you have to live in abject poverty or you're a hypocrite.
Can't get any worse than your posting that's for sure! Spoiler Sorry I just wanted to get in on this RTT fiestiness
jokes aside ceding a vision of socialism as poverty is bad politics. We have the productive tech for everyone to live with autonomy, dignity, security, and self-actualization if we’d quit pumping all the surplus into juicing stocks.
We shouldn’t be mad at Eathan for being given a Bentley. We should be mad we aren’t all given Bentleys.
The absolute bottom of the barrel brain dead approach to this is when people try to use the “if woke liberal socialist teacher truly believed in socialism they would teach for free” take. So god damned dumb.
Bragging about a Bentley isn't so bad when you realize Eathan has to live in it because of housing costs in LA.
Those and yet you participate in society memes are always so irritating because its like, yeah, you play the hand you're dealt but wanting to actually improve things doesn't make you a hypocrite. It makes you willing to give up certain things you might currently enjoy were it to benefit the whole.
WFH really is the best. I'm getting shit done but also watching John Wick shoot people in the face. Silver linings of 2020 and whatnot
I get that everyone including myself enjoys at least some flexibility on where the office is for the day but I’m really anxious to see how/if the commercial real estate market recovers. Hundreds of folks no longer occupying office space in downtown areas is putting a pretty big hit on surrounding businesses that relied on those bodies
Working from home has actually been really rough for me. ADHD is a mother fucker. But I do fucking love not spending a couple of hours a day driving to a from work. I don’t know the commercial real estate space well enough to know how the WFH revolution will negatively affect the average person or small business owner, but I feel like a bunch of mega corps making less profit bc they can’t rent spaces out for giant sums of money is an overall net good?
I wonder if I’m in the minority here but I work hybrid and like both equally at this point. I get More work done in the office and it’s nice walking to places for lunch and getting some sunshine
Also, fridays are my favorite day to work in office. Traffic is way better, no one is there, and going to happy hour at 5 to start the weekend makes for a good day
Im hybrid. Works for me well. Some days I want to go in to office and some days I’m like fuck it. Also lot of days I start my day in office, go to lunch, then finish the day from home after lunch. I think that’s my most ideal.. split the day
I like an office in limited quantities. For me that's prob not more than ~20% of my total hours per week (whether that's day splitting or 1-2 full days or whatever). More than that and I hate it and there's no additional value for teamwork purposes.
Same Most simple reason it’s bad is because of job loss and small business failures. Tons of business like lunch spots, convenience stores, barbers, shoe doctors, tailors, etc that serviced in office people are dead/dying. That roll up ultimately hurts the “Rich” landlords but at the end of the day the family owned barber/sandwich shop/whatever that now doesn’t exist is a net bad in my opinion. I’m sure something will eventually fill the economic vacuum that’s going to leave but not sure what it will look like
I like hybrid as well. Love the freedom of WFH. But also like most of my coworkers. Socializing w them is ok w me. Also I do think it helps productivity in some aspects. Plus the spontaneous happy hour is always fun. We also have a pretty sick break room w good snacks. That's the downside. Everyone gains weight when they start because the breakroom has pretty much everything. And if it doesnt, you can request something. Then you realize you need to chill out. I was pretty good about being disciplined when I worked mostly in the office. But now on days when Im in the office Im more like "ehhh Im just here for 1 day this week, I'll indulge'.
I’m very friendly with and very nice to my coworkers, but I hate small talk when I’m trying to get things done. I can get distracted at home sometimes. When I’m office I shut my door and get after it because I don’t want to participate in too much small talk.
I also hate negativity and it seems when I make small talk with coworkers it always end up with them being negative about work, etc. just not for me, so I try to avoid it
Someone in the office is listening to music at their desk through a speaker. It’s faint enough so that I can’t tell who it is, but it makes me wish I was at home today.
I think this is a big reason why some downtowns are seeing lots of petty crime and stores closing, there's not that same foot-traffic near them next to the big office buildings anymore. Given how insanely expensive housing is, especially in cities where big office buildings exist, it'd be nice if they were converted to apartments or condos just to help with the lack of housing supply.
can you try this again? normally I would mock you for your failures, but I am interested in the sauce
I am really, really bad at small talk, I hate it as well. I also didn't have anything in common with my co-workers so didn't care much to talk to them -- which is partly my fault because I never really tried, either. I like to keep my personal and professional lives very compartmentalized.
I wfh because I generally hate office culture. It's false and vacuous and is a waste of our lives. I can't fathom how anyone could possibly care about most of the dumb shit that goes on during a work day and it makes me sad that most of us waste our lives hanging out with people we don't like doing jobs we don't care about making somebody we're scared of lots of money only because he/she controls our financial security.
The biggest downside, as someone who works in software engineering, it's several times more difficult mentoring junior developers when we live on different sides of the country and keeping them on-task. It's all very ad-hoc and asynchronous now when I at least in-person could go over to their desk a few times a day to make sure we're all on the same page. Given that my company is totally remote everyone thinks they can basically get instant access to you because they have no idea how many other chats you're on and how many other people are bugging you because they have no easy way of seeing that.
