At this point, I gotta wonder if continuing to run Matt Manning out there to get shit on at the MLB level is doing more harm than good to his progression.
I don't think Hinch should have sent him out to start the fourth (and probably should have pulled him before that). I think he's generally been getting better as the season has progressed, though. His last start before this was probably his best of the season to date against a good Toronto line-up.
I'm not sure I can remember anything the Detroit beat writers for a sport loved more than Tigers beat writers love Harold Castro doing anything.
Riley Greene is 20 in basically his first year of minor league baseball and is already in aaa and has a combined stat line of hitting almost .300 with 20+ hr and 70+ rbi and 13 sb to only 1 cs in just 102 games. I love Torkelson, but I think Greene is something insanely special. He's our top prospect to me, especially given his position and age. Heck there is maybe only 1 or 2 other prospects in baseball I'd consider better than him
I don't see the point in starting Mize and pulling him after 3 innings. Especially when he only threw 34 pitches. I'd rather they just let him pitch normally for a few more starts and then pulled the plug 10-14 days early than start him through the end of the month and only let him go 3.
agreed 100%. Greene has star potential. I think Tork will be good, but when compared to others at his position, will just be slightly above average.

Players don't have to sit out for contact tracing if they test negative and are vaccinated, but that's based on collective bargaining with the PA. The rules might be different for coaches/team personnel. Just like how they can't mandate players get the vax, but orgs can do that with non-players.
Yeah, I rolled my eyes pretty hard at that. I'm glad that Torkelson is settled positionally, but have no issue with them taking a shot at a position that would have elevated his value. Despite all the teeth-gnashing at the time, it's pretty hard to make a case that it hindered his development.
