On one hand, all away points are good, on the other, that’s probably the most winnable away fixture and we didn’t really threaten. Some cohesion down the road will help though too
pretty boring game in the end which in some respects is a testament to our youth. despite the atmosphere and venue, we played pretty conservatively and didn't fuck up.
Everyone’s desperate to erase the last qualifying cycles with wins. A point down there is a good start.
to make an excuse, that's a buttload of travel for the European-based guys, not surprised they without exception looked sluggish tonight
Was boring. Felt that the moment was a bit big for some of the guys tonight. Again its a point on the road, but think it was there to take 3 tonight too.
I’m nowhere near as soccer literate as 99.9% of this thread but someone please explain to me why it is acceptable to tie a vastly inferior opponent regardless of game location.
My dumbass take. it was obvious who was the better team for first 15 minutes, didn’t finish and from that point it was 75 minutes of **mostly** USA having a chance here or there but terrible final third. if you argue the US should have had 3 points you aren’t wrong and if you say they are ok with a draw that’s not wrong. Have to hold court at home and bring the Mexico *vibe.*
The field is completely different playing conditions than any of these guys are used to. They’re used to playing where they know the grass is going to be pristine and allow the ball to bounce and roll exactly how they expect. That doesn’t happen in these road games. Refs often will let things get very physical. This is not the place for finesse. These guys also have never been through qualifying and this was their first taste of playing on the road. The rule you can normally follow is that if you win at home and get a draw on the road, you’ll easily advance
Young team on the road to start qualifying, after missing out the last World Cup...you'll take a point I guess. But god damn that was meh as fuck with how much talent we have.
All of that can be true, but when you play lesser opponents, you have to win. every time. Leaving 2 points on the table against shit teams is how we missed out on qualifying last time. Put these teams in CFB terms for me. Correct me if I’m wrong, but is the US a Wisconsin type team in the sense that they are good, but nowhere good enough to actually win the whole thing and El Salvador is what? A FCS team? A G5 team?
I don’t think anyone would argue this. They simply weren’t very good tonight and didn’t deserve shit.
This is completely false. USA lost twice at home in the hex last time and also lost on the road to both Costa Rica and T&T. Win either of those home results or draw on the road and they’re fine. You admit that you don’t know what you’re talking about but then spout off bullshit anyway
If qualifying is really that easy in terms of record, then whatever. Still don’t think it’s acceptable to tie shit teams regardless of where the game was played.
Colombia couldn't beat Bolivia away earlier today, Uruguay couldn't beat Peru away either. This is how the games go in World Cup Qualifying in the Americas. Win your home games, try to pick up what you can on the road
Hey that 2009 WCQ that we drew down there was clearly an indication that we weren’t capable of doing anything on the world stage. Really showed that Summer
Depth and talent on paper. It's not even like they bunkered and we put up a ridiculous amount of shots. 2 shots on goal. El Salvador had more possession, but we have Champions League players.
