It means he'd get one more year of arbitration. So we'd have to pay him arb money four times instead of the typical three. It just equates to us getting him super cheap for one less year.
We'd still get him for cheap for essentially the same amount of time. Only difference is you're trading about a month at the minimum for a 4th arb year on the back end. I think we'll see in the next couple weeks whether they're interested in Greene or Torkelson opening the season in Detroit. If they stay in AA the rest of the way, I think that means they start next year in Toledo. If they call either or both up to Toledo to end the season, I think that's them taking out that excuse next spring and opening the door for them to break camp in Detroit. Changes to the CBA could also play a role in either direction, depending on how that goes. If I was a betting man, I'd be Torkelson is more likely to start next season in Detroit than Greene, and that's by a decent amount.
We need to sign Correa. Fuck. 1. Grossman 2. Candelario 3. Correa 4. Cabrera 5. Schoop 6. Torkelson 7. Baddoo 8. ??? (Some OF) 9. Rogers
Ken Rosenthal said on MLBN on Monday or Tuesday that he expects us to be very active and land one of the SS. That could mean a lot of different things, because there are 5 of them (Correa, Seager, Story, Semien and Baez). I'd be perfectly content with any of the first four. I might quit if we signed Baez.
With that kind of pop, we can probably afford a glove-first guy like Hill as the Some OF while Greene marinates.
Seager Correa Semien Story I'm not even putting Baez on the list. Story is probably better than Semien, but I'd rather pay Semien at his likely price than Story at his. Correa and Seager are similar. They're both really good when they play. They're both also hurt a lot. I put Seager ahead of Correa because Seager's injuries don't seem as scary long term. Correa's dealt with a lot of back issues in his low/mid-20s, which doesn't seem great. That's why I'd be surprised if he got $300M or close to it. If I had to project the contracts now, I'd bet both Seager and Correa land something in the range of $150-200M over 6-8 years. Story will get $100M+ for 5+ years, although that could be way too low or high considering the season he's having and the unpredictable stuff about Coors. Semien is likely somewhere in the 3-4 years at $20M per range.
Ideal lineup come June 1st. Still way to early to pencil in Baddoo as a regular player. Wouldn’t be opposed to signing an OF FA too Grossman - RF Greene - CF Correa - SS Cabrera - DH Candelario - 3b Schoop - 2B Torkelson - 1b Hasse - C Baddoo - LF
Is Comerica capable of having a concert and not having the grass look like absolute dog shit. Fire Nabozny. It’s embarrassing that the field is in this condition.
They're going to force Avila's hand if they keep raking any longer down there. They almost have to bump them up to Toledo for the last month just to keep them from being bored. What Greene is doing at 20 in AA is putting him in big time territory, and that's with him losing last year in the minors. The only concerning thing about him in any way is his K rate is a little high, but at his age in this era that shouldn't be a deal breaker. And yes, I know Paredes is at the bottom of the list, but he never hit for the kind of pop Greene is.
And ftr, Tork has a higher wRC+ than Greene (151 coming into today). He's 21, though, and a little closer to the normal age for AA.
Kriedler has hit 15 bombs this year and seems to run okay for a 6'4" SS. I don't think he's ever going to hit enough, but he's not washing out yet.
So which losers on Toledo get demoted or released to make room for them? Kreider will be blocked by Story or Correa. He could be an utility player though.
I don't even care how many ABs it ends up being. I enjoy that it takes away the excuse from Al to say "we don't want to skip a step in their development so they have to start the season in AAA" next year. As long as they're decent over the next six weeks and have a good spring, they now might start with the big club.
Unfortunately Dingler got left behind .201 avg and .597 ops in AA Trei Cruz is hitting .160 with a .586 ops this year Cabrera .233 with a .671 ops about to turn 23 in A+ ball Workman .182 with a .549 ops since being called up to A+ ball. At least Colt Keith seems to be raking in the lower minors.
And it makes sense organizationally with Jaimer under club control for 2 more years and seemingly a capable 3B, Schoop signed for 1-2 years at 2B and the big hole at 1B. Along with Tork being bad at 3B.
I would rather listen to Emily Walden making up stories about guys hitting on her for nine innings than these two idiots for even a batter. Get them the fuck out of here.
Worst part is Shep not calling him out, he needs to be fired (just trying to find a way to shoehorn Shep getting the boot with him)
How does she get on air? I've never heard her make up stories about getting hit on by ballplayers, but I have heard her say the dumbest takes that someone who doesn't even watch baseball could say. She was on Dan Hasty's podcast last week and someone asked what Jacoby Jones needed to do to get back to the big leagues. (Let's ignore what a dumb fucking question this is for now) She proceeded to talk for 3 minutes about how the thing holding him back was his hitting. No shit Sherlock. Got any actual fucking information to provide? Absolute garbage.
