The trailer shows absolutely nothing but I am 100% all-in. From video description: The creators behind the award-winning German series DARK, which received praise and excited fans around the world, have kicked off production for their next and highly anticipated show: “1899” The eight episodes follow the mysterious circumstances around the voyage of an immigrant ship from Europe to New York. The passengers, all of different backgrounds and nationalities, are united by their hopes and dreams for a new century and their future abroad. When they discover a second ship adrift on the open sea that had gone missing for months, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a nightmare-like riddle, connecting each of the passenger’s pasts through a web of secrets. https://deadline.com/2021/05/1899-n...duction-stage-multilingual-series-1234747377/ Lots of info about the technical aspects of the show. Not much about plot, but here are some excerpts that stood out to me... 1899 origins Those involved in 1899 are keeping plot details close to their chests, but the premise is that the passengers on the boat, who hail from a diverse mixture of cultures and backgrounds but are united in seeking a better life in the U.S., encounter another migrant boat adrift on the open sea that turns their journey into a horrifying nightmare... Plotting a mysterious path Friese and Odar won’t be drawn into discussing 1899’s plot in more depth, but they want to reassure fans of their previous work that this is going to be in a similar vein. “Knowing that we did Dark, everyone can be assured that this is going to be something weird and wild and crazy,” teases Odar. Will it involve time travel again? “We don’t repeat ourselves, we really hate that, but it’s going to be a fun puzzle for the audience. We are going back to our mystery roots,” Odar adds. “All the passengers on the ship are traveling with secrets that they don’t want to get out. It’s built like a puzzle again,” adds Friese.
Netflix should've let them make more than 8 episodes. Plot sounds like it could have been inspired by The Return of the Obra Dinn, which could be good.
So this is going to be around the bermuda triangle correct? Have to imagine with being in the ocean and a lot of focus on triangles
Reviews are off the charts for everyone who got to see the first two episodes at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Idk why but using rock and roll music over settings from old time periods really bothers me except for A Knight’s Tale of course Still gonna watch looks dope
Im all in after one episode. Wish I could just binge this now. Might be able to get a few more in tonight feel like the ships names are meant to be obvious
Snuck in episode 2….need some people to start watching so we can discuss hopefully can knock out 3 tonight after kids go to bed
Im through episode 5 Spoiler Coal shoveler had no idea what to do when Daniel busted out an LED flashlight starting to think people are here from all over and this is more of a “where” show than a “when” show like dark was
I know this is dumb because subtitles and the different languages are great but I have to listen to it dubbed while working. I’m pretty sure the dub is the actors/actresses doing the voices. I kept switching back and forth during English speaking parts and they sounded the same.
Netflix defaulted to dubbing in English. Didn't catch it until the Japanese women spoke. Immediately switched it to original language w/ subtitles just as the Lord intended.
Oh that is so weird. I think I started watching it and it was all in English but I wasn't super focused and started over again and then it was all different languages. I just figured I wasn't paying close attention the first time. I don't even recall making a switch. I like it with the languages better.
Feel like the different languages is a big part of it considering it was referenced multiple times in the first episode. Hearing someone say in English that they can't understand what someone else is saying in English would take me out of it.
