Anybody else just make a bunch of low-ball offers on singles that people ask a ridiculous amount for? I do
Yep, low ball all the time hoping someone will bite, I just usually do it on sealed product. Got a Optic Cello off eBay for $28 the other week and pulled a Green Velocity Burrow out of it, to bad its off center or I could have gotten some good money for it. Still think I can get a $100 for it
i do this daily. father told me as a kid (in regards to cards) that it's only worth what someone is willing to pay you for it and of course this ...
i offered a guy 17.50 for a fat pack of Donruss (regular) football. he replied telling me to ... make a series offer. oh you mean, three times what you paid for it? cock bag. wasn't a hobby pack, just standard retail.
Love those guys, cause you already doubling your money wasn’t enough. I sold a Josh Allen card on eBay the other day and it was priced right at what all the other ones were selling for, well I forgot to set my offer limit close to my asking price. The guy proceeds to offer me half which I’m fine with but after I refuse he told me I didn’t know what I was talking about and the price was way off. Three days later he bought it for $1 off my price then proceeded to tell me to make sure it was sleeved and top loaded. Dude in all 3 pictures it was sleeved and top loaded. Some people just drive me crazy
Picked up a couple of nicely centered rookie cards off of Ebay. Currently searching for a 1984 Marino.
Flippers and dudes stalking the target vendors (same people i guess) are really ruining any enjoyment. Can't find shit. Even the local card shop is selling items way more than the suggested price. Even the junk wax stuff. None of the junk wax boxes are priced, and when I ask he basically looks it up on eBay. I dunno, kinda lame. Think I'll stick to my through the mail autographs for a bit.
I can't find shit and it's really aggravating, especially since I'm not after packs and just looking for singles.
My friend did and had some success. Beautiful cards, just brutal price. Got two Judge auto’s, one was the Green Monster wall graph
Lord help me I've discovered team pack breaks on eBay. I do not need another gambling avenue in my life, yet I did just land a nice 25/26 Saquan Panini National Treasures. Need some Ravens at 10:00
Layton sports cards, Buckcity breaks, and Firehand are all top breakers. I do Buckcity breaks pretty often
Baltimore was very good to me. JK Dobbins Field Pass Gold redemption, not sure what those details are Tyler JK auto and patch /25 Ray Lewis auto and patch /5 Duvernay auto and patch /5 Patrick Queen auto and patch /25 I'm hooked to these now
Would have immediate added to buyer block list after his message telling you you didn’t know what you were talking about. These are the guys who will message about mysterious surface scratches after receiving the card and ask for a refund. I really wish eBay displayed return rates for buyers because of stuff like this.
Totally agree I’ve had a few guys ask about surface issues and what not and all I tell them is to my eye it looks good, I’m not going to put every card under a microscope and look for issues. Your are buying a raw card not a graded one so that’s the chance you take.
So it looks like Select retail hit stores and it's over double the price of what Optic is going for on the secondary market.
I'm gonna got up target today because why not. Thought about going yesterday and now kicking myself I didn't.
Very first card I bought last year when I got back into collecting was an Acuna psa 10 bowman chrome for $120. Now selling for $600. Hard to tell when to pull trigger and sell, but I think his prices could keep going up
I did the same with a few Mookie Betts rookies, bought for like 15 now they are pushing that 150-200 range. Should have bought a ton more. I hear Grisham is starting to climb too. I was getting his rookies for dollars just 3 months ago.
went into walmart last night as they've been known to stock on thursday nights. walked past 6-7 guys waiting by the cards. i grab what i came to get (ice cream) and go home. the curiosity got the best of me and about two hours later i drove back up there and those very same guys were still waiting. so i go home, and i went back ten mins before they closed ... still waiting. so i go up there on my lunch, and you guessed it, the very same guys. i can see walmart nationally putting those things behind the counter and limiting them or just doing away with them all together. that shit was just weird.
At the target by my work guys were camping out at 2pm to be first in line the next day, and target limits you to 3 items.
My meijer only sells cards at 3 pm on Fridays now. Was able to sneak over now but I work so most I can do is get there 30 minutes before. Already 11 guys in line and first few guys grabbed chairs from another isle and are sitting and waiting. Wonder how long they've been here
they should stock at random times and outlaw loitering. people who sit and wait on the vendors truly are scummy people IMO
Got pokemon and one blaster of Series 2 hockey. They didn't have select and only had like 10 hangers of prizm bball
I’m on vacation from cards. If I bump into some by chance at target/Walmart, cool. But I’m over it all tbh. I’m willing to pay the regular hobby prices, but even that is ridiculous and out of my budget now, and I can’t find retail/don’t have desire to. I’m over it.
Once my work goes back to full time in person there is no chance I'm ever getting retail and barely getting it already
You're a better person than me. Hopefully all the bullshit starts to die down by the end of the year.
I've been working full time basically the entire pandemic(minus 2 weeks), and cards has been one of the things that has been getting me through it in terms of hobby/down time. It's just gotten to the point I can't keep doing it, not for the time being at least.
Like it's tough to even get into breaks anymore because even as the fan of a bad/cheap(ha!) team, people want cards so bad they take them lol
I don't like the way Upper Deck does their inserts for hockey. Put a damn number on the card, telling me it's Group A - 1:19,094 packs doesn't really mean shit.
Pulled a sam huff blue auto from topps heritage, not too bad I see that one of these cards has a white back while all the others are green/grayish, what's going on there??
It's one of the many variations but I'm not sure how short printed it is. I have one as well. I also have a french back which and pretty short printed as well. No Select at Target or Walmart but Walmart did have a ton of baseball. Got 2 megas and pulled a Franmil Reyes auto. Walmart megas have the shiney blue chrome parallels which look real nice.
I get it. Especially looking at how much some of the national treasures breaks cost for teams, it's hard to justify. Hell I couldn't imagine paying for a case of Panini prizm basketball. Let alone a case break for a better team in it.
I feel the same. If you're looking for something to do with cards, I've been having a lot of fun with through the mail autos. Using addresses at sports card forum. It's fun going through old 80s and 90s cards, sending them off with SASE, and getting them back signed. Not the same thrill of getting a hit, but still pretty fun (and cheaper) when you check the mail and there's signed cards waiting for you
Do you like heritage over donruss? I found 3 blasters of heritage the other day, but I haven’t opened them yet.
