Pretty crazy Armas came in and they didn’t miss a beat all year. That press is smothering. They’re doing what Sporting did back in the early 2010s except they’re doing it against teams that are twice as good.
Pump that Besler emotion directly into my veins. He’s so damn stoic but also by far the most competitive guy in the team
The second leg matches will feature Geiger as the ref in the West and Marrufo as the ref in the East.
I thought the fact that Parker, Robles, BWP, Zusi getting left off the best 11 was laughable. But then I saw Tata won “coach” of the year over Bradley. I know MLS is pandering to El Tri fans but that is just SAD!
Hmmm. I really think if this league wants to be respected both domestically and abroad they need to enact a fair play doctrine and relegate all teams with a negative NOI to the USL. I really don’t see that being a loss at all for the league considering the teams in question.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...or-portland-timbers-will-claim-final-ccl-spot So, 4 of the 5 CCL teams are determined: 2018 Voyageur Cup Winners: TFC 2017 US Open Cup: SKC 2018 US Open Cup: Houston 2017 MLS Cup winner: Atlanta* 2018 MLS Cup winner: RBNJ/PTFC** *I know, I know Atlanta hasn’t won anything BUT Canadian clubs can only qualify via the Cabdian Cup. So TFCs win doesn’t count. So they added up point totals from 17-18 out of all the non qualifiers and Atlanta is the highest. **Which leaves the 2018 MLS Cup winners. If Atl or SKC win it will be given to RBNJ as they have the 2nd highest point total of 17-18 seasons out of non qualifiers. If RBNJ actually win the cup (holy cow that’s hard to type without laughing) they obviously qualify. BUT if YOUR Portland Timbers win the cup they would steal that spot from RBNJ. Considering everyone in this thread is in agreement that SKC are the clear favorites for the 2018 MLS Cup it’s a lock that we’ll get to witness RBNJ choke again in next years CCL.
I could handle a loss to Jersey considering they’ve actually beat SKC in their teams history. Now someone like Atl that’s never came close to beating Sporting (they average like .5 ppg vs SKC). Now that would just kill me. Hate losing to inferior opponents.
RBNJ has never lost to Atlanta and has a +5 goal difference in 4 meetings, which means we're going to lose the 2 legs by a 5 goal difference, sorry.
Pre-ordered tickets to the MLS Cup Final at Red Bull Arena, but only after the ticket rep pledged a blood oath that I'd get my money back.
My lumbar wouldn’t expect anything else. But for 1, I’m not going to MLS Cup. For 2, I’ve never met Collins wife. When he was with SKC she never came stateside. They always met in the Caribbean or S American. IIRC, she’s Venezuelan but went to school in Espana and that where they met. Her “job” is model/actress/sports commentator. But I know that she now lives with him in NYC.
MLS going to single elimination in the playoffs? The athletic has something on it but I'm not a subscriber. EDIT: Also expanding playoffs to 7 teams per conference with only first place in the conference getting a bye. That's not bad because you want to reward first place in the conference but I would wait until expansion to 28. Next year will have 14 of 24 making the playoffs, which is way too high a percentage. EDIT2: Condensed regular season with more midweek games in the summer. My opinion: They probably get better ratings on the midweek games and this is for TV contract purposes.
Yeah just read it. The gist. Season will start in Feb with a focus on scheduling in the warmer climates mid Marchish. Decision day will be October 6th. Depending on when they decide to start the season there will be more midweek matches. The playoff will include 7 teams and remain at 7 until 28 teams are in the league. Top seeds get a first round bye. Single elimination matches played at the higher seed (mls officials say higher seeds win 74% on single elimination but only 53% of 2 legged matches.). MLS cup will be played the weekend before the Nov international break.
