Same for me. Started with Offspring and Green Day blowing up, which led to Epitaph, Fat, and Nitro samplers. Then hearing the greatness that is Face to Face. Was really into Good Riddance, which led me to some more hardcore bands like the Gorilla Biscuits, Strife, Ignite, Straight Faced, Sick of it All, Hatebreed, etc. Early 2000's, went through a Get Up Kids, Jimmy Eat World, Midtown, and more phase. Then some heavier bands than those like Thrice, Thursday, Finch, and what Strung Out had become.
Same pretty much. I still listen to all the shit though but not much ska anymore. Of course ska is basically dead now anyways.
New Tigers Jaw is out, and I absolutely love it. It's not the TJ you're used to by any means, but that's to be expected since it's Ben and Brianna's first album as a duo. It's poppy, but has jangly guitars and catchy hooks. The Brianna songs are...not great. I like her, but she's not strong enough to sing lead. Those songs (June, Brass Ring) are easily my least favorite. Really dig Favorite, Follows, Bullet, and Window, but the album is really good as a whole.
That’s it, we’ve had enough Put ‘Walk Among Us’ on and turn it up Ain’t nothing on the air waving the hatred we feel Are you gonna be kinda poppy, dark as fuck and spit me some Misfits? Yeah, we're good
Just listened to Kiss of Death...seems very 80s metalish and not really close to hardcoreish. Lots of bass
well it's a bit of a mish mash of sounds. two of the guys were in the band converge. one was in some band called cave in. this is closer to what i was thinking. maybe i don't know what hardcore sounds like.
And for some of the more traditional NYC style hardcore fans (though they're French Canadian), the new Obey the Brave is awesome. The singer is one of the singers of deathcore band Despised Icon.
Also saw the Gimme Gimmes a few weeks back, and Spike might be the best front man in punk rock. Really an incredible vocalist and one hell of a dancer. Fat Mike or Shiflett didn't play. Jay Bentley of BR and Chris Cheney of The Living End filled in.
Never really got into Taking Back Sunday....a little too screemo for me. I enjoy some of their songs when they pop on Thursday's Google music's station
In college, a young Boo MFer! used to feel like the cock of the walk when he'd hit up Balls bar and immediately throw Cute Without the E on the old jukebox.
After reading dyingscenes recap on punk rock bowling I had to listen to some Venomous Pinks again. Man I don't know why but I really like this track. Reminds me of the screeching weasel I grew up on.
Btw Bad Cop/Bad Cop has a new album coming out on the 16th. I'm very excited. Also new Rancid album out and able to stream. Listening to it now.
Anyone else reading Laura Jane Grace's (of Against Me!) autobiography right now? I'm about halfway done and it's a pretty interesting memoir. Quick read and its divided about 50/50 between her personal life / gender dysphoria and the inner workings of the band.
So if you like female bands....Bad Cop/Bad Cop new album is really good in my opinion. Really enjoyed it the few times I've listened. Rancid was Rancid. If you've listened to a Rancid album you know what to expect but I for one do love Tim Armstrong.
Hey guys, I don't really TMB these days, but I finally made the pilgrimage. Flew up to Chicago and saw Brand New at the Aragon Ballroom tonight. It truly was fucking amazing, and I'm pretty hard to please. As far as my best albums of '17 is concerned, Science Fiction is an extreme close #2 to the Menzingers "After The Party," but only because the Menzingers are my favorite act of all time. Degausser was by far and away the best song they played tonight, closely followed by You won't know. Jesse very briefly alluded to them breaking up soon, so this was 100% fucking percent worth the trip. I was fucking out of town for work last year when Brand New toured playing "Devil and God" in its entirety, and that's been one of my biggest regrets musically speaking. Tonight ALMOST made up for missing that last tour. BTW, Aragon Ballroom was an incredible venue.
Also: I am fucking devastated as well by Inviting Light. Most disappointed i've been in an album in years Taques. I don't know if you saw, but the flatties recently announced a 10th anniversary "Great Awake" tour, and i'll be god damned if I don't make it to one of those as well. KHTDR 6 years ago still to this day is the greatest live song I've personally witnessed, and YES i've seen NOFX play the Decline in person. Would die happy seeing one of my favorite albums of all time from beginning to end.
Seeing Brand New next Thursday for the third and probably final time. They've been my favorite band for as long as I can remember, so it's going to be a really bittersweet show.
