Pretty impressive that the crushing loss for DJ at the US Open a couple years ago really didn't affect him at all
I was really working on staying down thru the ball as opposed to what I normally do which would end up missing right. So I was hitting the ball a lot better but missing shots left but just off the green
He was -6 through 8. Lol. Now through 10, still -6 for the day and -16 overall which has him two shots behind Leishman Wish I didn't have to work today or I'd have gone
Made my first albatross Saturday. Par 5 had temp tee boxes making it 275 yards. Drove it on the green and made a 20' putt.
I made a double eagle in Nashville at Vanderbilt Legends south course. Par 5, holed it from 260. This was back in the day with my tour edge exotics 5 wood. By most metrics I hit it further now and am a better golfer, but I can't hit a 5 wood 260. Those TEE were deep. I loved that I made a double eagle, but it felt like pure luck (which it was).
2 summers ago I heard a story about JT at Mountaintop in Cashiers and I knew he was destined for big things. He blocked it OB on 1. Re-teed and drove the green (450 hole but downhill) then made the par putt. Went on to shoot course record.
Club fitting guys, looking for some help. I've been checking GolfWRX pretty consistently looking for a deal on a used Epic with a better shaft. Found one that is a deal I'm interested in but the shaft is X and I'm not sure if that is something I'd need or not. Are there any general cues that can tell you if someone needs to go from S to X in a driver shaft? I've only hit an X once before and had some success on the range
Unfortunately it is not a clear answer. An X in one brand/model can be a S in another and vice-versa. It's truly one of those situations where you have to test out for yourself.
I was assuming it'd essentially need to be a try it out type deal. I've mostly been going off weight in a lot of the ones I've been looking at and what I've hit before. Current driver is 64g S, same brand as this other shaft which is 71g X. I have liked the drivers I've hit that had a heavier shaft, one being S and one being X, so I'm torn
Only a fitter or a pro watching your swing will be able to tell you. What I do know is shafts are pretty unique and they're not something you want to play the guessing game with. They're a million times more important than the club head imo, but getting fit and getting the right feel in your swing makes a big difference and was a big confidence builder for me.
Any idea what your driver swing speed is? That's likely the only barometer we'll be able to use for shaft flex. Honestly, how quick your transition is probably matters more, but we won't be able to tell that online.
I'm pretty unhelpful as I'm not sure, I'd venture to guess it's slightly above average. Gotten my handicap down to around 9 this summer with how much I've been playing. In doing some reading yesterday I did see it mentioned about the transition and that has given me caution towards the X because I have a slight Matsuyama-esque pause at the top
Essentially my real dilemma here is that I know I should be fitted for everything and I'm thinking since my swing is in a good place right now it's the right time to do it, I'm just trying to come to terms with the price tag that comes with a new driver and irons
Don't always have to buy clubs when you get fitted. I straight up told the guy I like my driver I just want to get fitted for a shaft. Went, and for $60 he kept switching shafts in and out for me to try. Just tell them you're interested in trying out the Epic with shaft options, but you're not fully committed on purchasing at that time.
Golf thread, I forgot to update you guys last week. Bubba won the MetLife MatchUp so we are getting 500k of the prize money towards building our Children's Hospital. The check presentation is today and has a pretty cool announcement to go with it. I'll pop back in here later to share that news with you guys.
SIAP but Paige is now a brand ambassador for PXG. She was representing her brand at the cash-only driving range/golf course south of Old Town Scottsdale on Wednesday!
My in-laws are going to the Tour Championship on Friday. Any recs for holes to sit on or holes to see? I told them to walk around a bit and see the course, then sit for a while, and then follow a group around towards the end of the round.
What is your current driver, shaft, and loft? What is your miss? Good drives how high do they go, do they get roll?
913 D2, Diamana S+ 62 stiff, 10.5* loft. Current setting is A-2 which is standard loft and 1.5* upright. Normal shot shape is a little cut, miss is typically a slice (occasionally a pull when I get out of sync) and whenever I go at it a little harder it's always a slice. Ball flight is pretty high and a fairly short roll out. Took out a demo Epic today with 9* loft and had a good mid-height flight but still losing it right without knowing any of the other settings
So the news is that we're renaming the road that the new Children's Hospital will be on to "Bubba Watson Drive". It'll feature a statue of Bubba with his driver and all along the median, you'll see multicolored ribbon structures that simulate the arc of golf strokes. Had an interesting moment where he drove a ball into the middle of the construction site.
