The 2016 WSM lineups and events have been announced. Prelims start August 13 in fucking Botswana (it's better than China or Los Angeles again, I suppose). Group 1 Johannes Arsjo-Sweden Mark Felix-England Martins Licis-USA (he's Latvian, but must have changed citizenship) Luke Stoltman-Great Britain Matjaz Belsak-Slovakia Robert Oberst-USA Group 2 Gregorz Szymanski-Poland Eddie Hall-Great Britain Nick Best-USA Adam Bishop-Great Britain Jon Olav Granli-Norway Frank Okalome-Nigeria Group 3 Derek Devaughan-USA Terry Hollands-Great Britain Hapthor Bjornsson-Iceland Colm Woulfe-New Zealand Johnny Hansson-Sweden Konstantine Janashia-Georgia Group 4 Laurence Shahlaei-Great Britain Mikkel Leicht-Denmark JF Caron-Canada Bryan Benzel-USA Stan Carradine-USA Ari Gunnarsson-Iceland Group 5 Benni Magnusson-Iceland Mateusz Kieliszkowski-Poland Brian Shaw-USA Eben LeRoux-Australia Charlie Gough-Great Britain Gerhard Van Staden-South Africa Lots of new names here and a lot of names are missing (Savickas, the Lalas brothers, Pritchett, Radzikowski, Savatinov . . .) I hate to say it, but it's kind of light on talent this year. Unlike previous years, there is no "group of death". My predictions: Group 1: Arsjo and Belsak. Wildcard is Felix Group 2: Hall and Best Group 3: Hapthor and Hollands Group 4: Shahlaei and Caron Group 5: Shaw and Kieliszkowski I really don't see much in the way of Brian winning his 4th title. Hapthor is busy doing the Hollywood thing and Eddie spent too much effort on pulling 500 kg.
Yeaaaaa I had some shoulder/tricep issues and had to back off of heavy bench for about a month and am only ~3 weeks back into heavy chest. Hurt that progress a lot. They were pretty easy I thought about putting on some 2.5s for the last set but decided to just take my W for the day and be on my way
Depth hit? New pioneer belt is nice. Took 1 week from order time. It isn't stiff as fuck/needed a car rolling over it to break it in either.
Week put from 1st meet. Gonna try to hit 405 Sunday. Hopefully I hit it and that'll be my second attempt. Then Yolo on #3
Anybody have a problem with like chronic turf toe? I have it randomly in both big toes and it won't go away
I don't even know what turf toe is to be honest. Heard about it obviously but not sure what the actual injury feels like.
It's at the base of the big toe going into the top of the foot. Happens usually when the big toe is hyperextended or the tendons are overly worked. Random shooting pain that really has no rhyme or reason. it's not unbearable, I'm just wondering why it hasn't gone away in like two years
Hit 275x3 this morning on high bar squats pretty easily (which means I'm close to back to where I was before screwing my hip up). I'm 10lbs lighter and previous PRs were low bar. Pretty happy, now I just need to not get hurt again.
Mine is in both hips now. Squatting hurts like shit but I'm supposed to go to dr next week so going to see what they think it is. It's to the point I can't block it out to get through a lift but it hurts more when I'm not working out if that makes sense.
I tore fibers in my hip flexor probably 4 years ago. It finally got better from cortisol shots, those things are magic. Then two years ago I reinjured it and didn't bother going back to the doctor. Instead took about 9 months off from squatting, which seems to have healed it.
Fucking hip AIDS in here. I'm in the same boat. 3 triples on the squat to about 85%. Safety squats for 6 sets of 5. Good mornings and reverse hypers to tear up the hammies. Rocking some ultra short jorts for a party today do I needed to get the quads pumped up.
Decided to drop the UHF program. Hitting 5 days consistently each week isn't realistic for me and I neglected my deadlift days as a matter of scheduling. I started J&T 2.0 today. It fucked me hard. 265 lbs for 9 (was supposed to be 10 but I miscounted) for a rep PR on high bar. Then 235 (70%) for 3 sets of 6. Then deficit deadlifts 4x10 at a measly 50% (200 lbs). Lol @ "measly." I went into today thinking this shit was going to be breezy. It rocked me. Almost threw up/passed out. I think it was a combination of things: Not deadlifting for reps like that... like ever... squatting 28 working reps immediately before, a sweltering hot warehouse gym, not lifting in a week, and vacation with lots of booze/little sleep. Accessories, which this program calls for A LOT, didn't happen. I laid down on an incline bench for about 10 minutes and left. I am such a pussy. Anyway, pumped about this program. It fits my schedule much better. I'm back to tracking all my food and I'm hoping to hit some big gains both in terms of strength and packing on a few pounds. https://www.instagram.com/p/BI2e942DIjj/?taken-by=adamhen86
Hip AIDS also. Started high bar a few months ago and absolutely fucked my left hip flexor at some point. So bad that I overcompensated on low bar warm up with 185 and strained my back. With 185... Backed completely off for three months. Felt good enough to conventional squat with 275 X 5 X 5 Friday. Weight was light. Followed up with lunges, Bulgarian squats, and finished with sldl's. Thought it was a fairly easy day. I'm just now able to walk normally.
You guys ever use kettle bells? A guy I work with gave me one because he doesnt want it anymore and I tried out some of the movements today after my usual lifting. Definitely a good workout and a nice change of pace
I wrote my own, but it's similar to his original method for squats and deadlifts. 531 for main lifts and front squats, his rep/set/load scheme for T2 then accessories. For bench I'm running Disbrow's bench to finally push it to 315
Do swings with it. It'll strengthen your hip extensors and prevent the hip AIDS that all of these jabronis are talking about.
yesterday did chest/tri workout 3 sets of 10 DB bench press at 50lb 3 sets of 10 incline bench machine 3 sets of 10 cable flys 3 sets of 10 tricep push down 3 sets of 10 trciep single hand pull downs this look ok? Tried to do what capstone was talking about and get more reps on chest and do ancillary tricep work although i know i didn't do any delt work. Is that enough reps for chest? I forgot how many reps he said to do. Diet- Breakfast-special k protein cereal , apple, coffee Lunch-8 oz round turkey, 1/2 cup kidney beans, 1 cup brown rice, apple Dinner-grilled redfish, baked sweet potato wasn't able to get a protein mid morning snack because of work reasons. Still pretty happy that i didn't eat a bunch of snacks like usual.
It's essentially just a 2 day a week with one being heavy and one being volume. Heavy day is 8 triples and 2 doubles followed by a 5x5 then accessories. Volume is 5x5 followed by a lot of volume on incline, flat DB, incline DB.
What's everyone's opinion on when to use a belt when squatting? Is it still 75-80% of your 1RM or is ok to use it with some lighter weight too?
Start with this quote and read on. lhprop1 (who is much more knowledgeable than I) says why it is beneficial to use it more often. I hardly ever use one though
3 sets of 290x1 yesterday on bench. got a 2nd rep on the final set too. really love the UHF having incline or legs up bench as a random chest lift on non-chest days. feel like I've had more development in that area over the last 2 months than I had in the year before it.
Journal entry: I know I douched up the thread awhile back talking about lifting for aesthetics/physique versus just being really strong like pretty much everyone else in here is. Update on that- been eating a lot to try and bulk and seeing really good gains in squat/DL/bench. I keep increasing my goal bodyweight because I keep hitting the goal and still not being as big as I'd like. And when I'm increasing strength like I am right now I don't ever want to stop. This must be how it starts huh? Since everyone else is telling their bench story from Monday- Got 225 for 11 reps on my first fresh set after warming up. Probably had 12 in me but didn't have a spotter. Felt as good as ever, I think 315 will happen really soon, which is awesome because I too set my goal for benching it by the end of the year.
One thing I'm loving about my new bench programming is the high volume of tricep work. Yesterday after all the triples, doubles, and 5x5 I hit 5 sets of 12 on OH tricep extension and 5 sets of 20 on band pushdowns. Am I crossfit now?
Most of my band work is isolation or prehab/rehab/mobility. Band Pushdowns, Band pullaparts, etc for plenty of volume on small muscle groups. Band abduction is a good one for the hips.
WSM starts tomorrow. For anyone interested in finding out the results before it airs in a few months, you can find them here. http://www.sugdenbarbell.co.uk/forum/WSM-2016?-24668/45
Anyone see the injury at the Olympics on Wednesday? Pretty gruesome elbow dislocation, highly advise to not watch the video. I don't even want to go find it otherwise I'd link you sickos that want to see it
It was rough. he was the only guy to even come close to Liu's snatch. That weight class was an awesome watch. Liu looked like he had it in the bag then the Kazakhstan guy comes in with a 12 (maybe 14?)kg jump in the C&J to take gold.
My sack is swelled up to 3 times its normal size, so I got to spend yesterday morning getting fondled by a fat old guy. Turns out that my intestines are spilling out into my sac. Hooray for hernias! Goodbye sweet gainz. The most embarrassing part is that I think it was a coughing fit that caused it. I can pull fire trucks, flip 1000 lb tires, and pick up stones larger than a small cow, but a stupid cough caused my abdominal wall to rupture. FML.
Went 8/9 in my meet this past weekend. 413/245 (failed at 260)/435 for 1093. 2 vacations and getting hurt 2x during the past 4 months fucked me up a bit and kept me from hitting my goals of 450/500 on squat and DL. Bench sucks. Blame long arms vs being a weak pussy. Next meet in December. hensleya need some linear Prog in my life. What optional lifts do you do for Candito's Strength/Control program.
