Didnt we read this for book club? I know it was at least voted on. Started it and about 1/3rd of the way in. Almost ready to bail. For those that have read it - worth sticking with?
I had a similar viewpoint, though I didn't get as far as you did. Just wasn't doing it for me and I can't explain exactly why. Pretty sure it was a book club book a few years back. I know dcon79 read/finished it and he was a big fan. I wanted to like it, just didn't.
Yes I enjoyed it. Kind of funny it had an alternate reality scenario in an alternate reality book (they speculate on the allies winning in the book at one point)
Im powering through it. Hope to finish it tonight. It's just so blah. Nothing exciting is happening. The characters are boring. I dont connect with any of them.
Yes. The premise of The Axis Powers winning WW2 and what life is like after is really cool/interesting. I just hope they spice up these story lines.
I'm still deciding if I'll read the book before then. I want to just so I can read it, but I do want to watch the show.
Finished. Hated it. Maybe there was some kind of metaphor that just went over my head, but it was a yawner.
Yeah, it was my suggestion for book club a while back, and never got picked up after the crash. I'm reading it now, its not nearly as good as I expected, but still interesting to see how things are in this particular reality. Seeing how the Japanese influence changes American is fascinating and horrifying at the same time (most of the book so far takes place in their half of the country). I'm about halfway through. I'm excited for the show, I'm hoping it uses the main idea of the book as a stepping off point and makes some good action happen, the idea is so rich with possibilities you could go almost anywhere with it.
I went back and read character summaries and plot synopsis of this book prior to starting the show tonight. It wasnt that long ago that I read it, but it bored me to tears and I just kind of breezed though it just to finish. Re the ending - Dont open if you havent read and plan to, or want to watch the show Spoiler It seems to be a little more thought provoking than I thought. When Juliana feel the book and the alternate reality is real - I took it that you just cant kill the American spirit/culture ect and that's how the Allies live on. Apparently some people think the Grasshopper book is the real reality and the story and characters that we know are the alternate one. That's some trippy Matrix type shit Thoughts? Apparently, this is exactly what happened: Anyway - I watched the first two episodes that are available on Torrance. They were really good. So far the have changed some stuff, but have mostly kept the story lines for the most part. I was expecting them to just take the general universe/setting of an Occupied North America and go from there, but they've found a more entertaining way to tell the story while keeping mostly the same characters and plot lines, so far.
