when you go to send a text in a group does it say MMS or SMS? in the settings of hangout, you can change group text to use SMS, oppose to MMS, but now I'm getting text from people individually, not in 1 thread.
9/24/14 Chris, Community Manager @ Google said: Hi All, In order to send group SMS messages, you must have group MMS enabled in Hangouts. This means that replies to that message will act like a "reply all" in email. For those users who wish to send a kind of broadcast SMS in which messages reach multiple recipients (but for which replies don't "reply all"), we are sorry to say that that functionality is no longer available in the Hangouts Android App. Brad Romano said: I don't do it often, but sorry Google, not enough of my contacts use Hangouts to take away Group SMS. Put it back please!
mms just seems slower, not to mention it's flat out not working for me. Refusing to send within a group per mms. Sending fine to a single person per SMS.
I'm not Shock rich but I do ok. I always keep my phones in good condition, then eBay them and buy something else off Swappa.
I personally wouldn't recommend anymore LG phones just because I cringe every time I look at their skin. Finally got paranoid android on my G3...never going back!
I'm pondering giving up my unlimited data on Verizon. I've averages 25-30 gigs of data per month for the last couple years. That was due to me traveling and using Maps and XM all day every day plus using MLB.tv at night. I've recently changed jobs and I'm back in an office now so my data should come waaaay down. Going to wait a month or two to see how far it comes down before making the change. Would kinda suck having to worry about it at all. Turning wifi on at home is one thing but having to worry about dl'ing attachments and shit like that would blow.
fwiw I use the default messages app and my group text still works fine. I have a "group conversation" button that lets me choose to reply to all as a group of individually.
When I click the plus sign for a new message, I'll type in a name and their name and number will show up with a little SMS to the right of their number. Then Hangouts asks me if I want to add anyone else, so I click in the area again and do the same thing and SMS will come up for that person too. I don't know if it actually works as I haven't sent a group text as a test, but it seems that it is at least allowing me to do it. I don't know though
Ugh part of me says this. Sucks bc our family plan is stuck on the "nationwide" plan. All of the new pricing is on the "more everything" plan. They have a 20gb plan for $140 plus line access (we have 4 lines). Wife uses 3-4gb, mom uses 1gb, and brother uses 0gb. I'd have 15gb to use. I should be able to keep it way under that. Just sucks all around bc we're paying almost $325 a month and I can't upgrade my line. I used my wife's upgrade a while back but now she wants a new phone and doesn't have an upgrade. Just a pain. Saving $100+ a month and being able to upgrade or use the Edge plan is really tempting.
pretty sure you can sell your unlimited account online and make a pretty penny - at least people used to do that.
pretty sure MMS is the standard protocol to conduct group messaging unless you have everyone within the imessage ecosystem. MMS (both group messages and media) transmits over cellular data, rather than through the voice channel, which is how sms are transferred. my understanding is that sms is actually transferred through metadata level functions of the voice channel, hence not needing to be on 3g/4g/wifi to receive.
not sure the logistics, other than the fact that it happens online in some capacity. May not be much, but i remember hearing that and was kinda suprised. they may have cracked down on it who knows. I would just do some googling or ebaying and see what comes up.
heres a forum post from 2012 with some (likely out of date info) http://androidforums.com/threads/looking-to-take-over-someones-verizon-unlimited-data-plan.655480/
RE the Google Inbox discussion a few pages ago... Does anyone who makes sure EVERY DAY they are at 0 unread prefer it to the regular app? I feel like the "push" is slower, etc. I don't use Gmail for my work email, just wondering what the particular advantages are. I do hate that the swipe doesn't advance to next (or previous) message.
Question about WiFi connection on the S6...is it possible for me to set a specific WiFi to not auto connect? I don't want to connect to my work WiFi, except for large downloads, but my only solutions so far are to either turn WiFi off or forget that network after my download is complete. Thoughts?
What kernels are everyone running? My battery life has been sucking balls on CM12 on my N6. I switched to ElementalX kernel today and bought the EX manager. Seems to be doing well.
Google just announced a free add supported tier to google play music. Might replace some of my pandora usage. Glad to see competition heating up with music streaming.
Looks like some Note 5 information is leaking out: http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-note-5-leak-shows-6-appeal-sure-attract-h8rs-620736/ All signs point to a glass back and non-removable back like the S6. There are several people out there who are going to be furious at the lack of SD card slot and battery. However I think this is going to be a killer phone.
Yeah, if Samsung does this to the Note then I'll likely look to another brand for the first time in 5 years. Removable back for extra batteries + SD card slot was THE main reason for me to abandon iPhone. I haven't regretted it one bit as pretty much everything about android if superior but this move would definitely be infuriating.
Still don't understand why non-Apple phones are going to no removable battery and no SD card. Those are both massive advantages to the iPhone. Getting rid of them is retarded.
Unfortunately it's probably only a fraction of people that care about them, and it's much easier to make a better phone to the rest of the population when ignoring them.
Those of you all running a Nexus 6 on Verizon, have you gotten the 5.1.1 (build LMY47Z) OTA yet? Some people on XDA are saying they got it but I haven't seen a zip I can sideload from any of the major websites...
Reading is hard. You didn't happen to capture the OTA download link from Google did you? I assume not but worth asking...
Was pointed to this thread on XDA in case anyone needs to grab some Nexus 6 OTAs in the future: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/ref-nexus-6-stock-ota-urls-t2906493
there is a n6 thread (Called Update Desk or OTA desk or something) which they capture the OTA urls and poste them there asap. I've always used those threads to directly download the otas asap
Shouldn't really matter. I don't think anyone is trying to differentiate themselves with music focused hardware.
not to my knowledge. just turn wifi on and off, shouldn't be that big of a deal. only manufacturer that's ever really focused on it is HTC. M9 is probably your best sounding phone(although I hear the M8 is better) and even then DNA had surprisingly good speakers. still, as was said, it's all about the same. I certainly wouldn't make it even a secondary purchase point in looking for a phone.
As others have said, if you are using headphones it really doesn't matter. But if you are using the phone's speakers look at something with front facing stereo speakers. M9 and Nexus 6 are really your only options right now. The 2014 Moto X looks like it has front facing stereo speakers but it is only one speaker, not two. Which actually makes a big difference.
