Spoilers- OK, so it's a pretty widespread thought that Jon Snow is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark. Just a random ass thought Im having right now- Is it possible that Jon Snow is Aegon Targaryen? I know everyone thinks he was killed by Gregor, but what if the kid was swapped out or something like Gilly's kid before the sack of kings landing? I bring this up because Jon Snow and Aegon were both born in 283 AL according some shit I read. Not saying I think he is, but Im looking for someone to throw some proof that I may have forgotten that proves he's not.
My daughter and I have been theorizing about this as we've read the books (yes, I have a daughter old enough to read the books...she's a Clemson student in fact, clemsonvianj). We've been pretty much in the Team Rheagar/Lyanna camp because of the Stark resemblance, although we kind of want him to be the lost Targaryen. In the "who eventually wins" debate, we've settled on a Jon/Daenerys hookup...which is not a problem even if they're both Targaryens, cuz that's how they roll.
Yeah, one reason that Im thinking this is that it would seem very un GRRM like for everyone to expect something to happen and then it happen like people thought. It would seem like he would set people up like that only to
I just want the fat bastard to live long enough to finish the series. If you've been reading these books real-time as he writes them, It's more than an exercise in patience, and he looks like a walking heart attack.
Would Ned protect Rheagar and Elia's baby? Maybe, but fatass also goes out of his way to say that Arya and Jon favor in the face. He also makes a point of showing how adamant Lyanna was about Ned promising her something. Doesn't seem to me that she would be that motivated about protecting a step son, especially so soon after going through her own labor or some other sickness. I guess it's still possible and I think Aegon is alive but I don't think he's Jon. I'm hoping George introduces some new characters bc my favorites don't stand a chance if they are left standing by themselves for three more books.
I think Tyrion eventually hooks up with Dany. They had that bit about him being obsessed with dragons as a boy in GoT, and his small stature and cleverness would be a great contrast against Drogo's physical strength but not exactly towering intellect.
As many times as they talk about Jon favoring Ned and resembling Arya I think he's definitely Lyanna's son, not Aegon. Another thing I was thinking as I reread this part of ASOS last night (the Catelyn POV just before the Red Wedding). Robb tells Catelyn that he is going to name Jon as his heir, and at the end of the POV he tells his six liege lords to affix their seals to a document proclaiming his heir, but doesn't tell them it's Jon. I wonder if that document makes it's way into the story again... Possibly with Melisandre needing royal blood for the fire, and Jon would now be "double" royal as the son of Rhaegar and the King of the North. Robb of course thinks Bran, Rickon, and Arya are dead which adds another layer of intrigue to it since all three would have more legitimate claims to the throne than Jon.
R + L = J is a pretty widespread theory. He is not Aegon, who was Rhaegar and Elia baby, but his name could have been Aegon the 5th or whatever, and Ned shortened it to Jon.
Definitely think he is Rhaegar's and Lyanna's. Also if you notice Ned always says you have my blood flowing through your veins to Jon, but never you're my son. Implying that he has Stark blood, but not Ned's.
Yeah but in the show they pronounce aegon like gon, not jon. As in gonzalez or something. Of course this may not be the way to pronounce it but it seems like they would have at least asked martin how to pronounce with words
Yeah, its just some more evidence that R + L = J ghost - white on outside, red eyes on inside "you are my blood" Aegon - Jon ( I pronounce Aegon - A-Jon) buy hey Lyanna dying in a pool of blood - bloody birth Rhaegar crowning Lyanna the queen of beauty or whatever at that tournament The 2 kids with bran always alluding to Jons parentage
I think Aegon is pronounced Eg-on or Egg-on.... something like that Aegon the Unlikely(Maester Aemon's brother) was nicknamed Egg as a kid
I dont get the significance of ghost being white with red eyes. Also, on an unrelated note, Shaggy Dog is a stupid name for a wolf. And I want Arya's wolf to come back.
IMO it has more significance as just showing he was the outsider than relating to R+L=J. White with red eyes is just how an albino animal looks.
Thats just the beauty of Martin and his red herrings. You can take ghost as symbolic of Jon, ice on the outside (stark - white) - red on the inside (targaryen - fire). Or just an albino wolf. I always though Aegon was called Egg because of his bald head. But I hear ya.
can we all agree the only reason jon wont turn out to be a targ is because grrm got mad everyone found out and decided to change it up
He shaved his head so no one would know who he was. He was supposed to squire for his older brother but he is a bitch so Aegon shaved his had so he could try and become a squire for some one else with out them knowing who he truly was
maybe some some slight foreshadowing ADWD Dany 1 pg. 36: nothing that you don't know already. Spoiler the Usurper's dogs had murdered her brother's son when he was still a babe at the breast. If he had lived, I might have married him. Aegon would have been closer to my age than Viserys I'm talking in respect to Jon and not Aegon.
He was with Ned when they went to the Tower of Joy to rescue Lyanna and Arthur Dane and the two other knights of the Kingsguard were there.
Howland Reed has been mentioned a few times but hasn't shown up yet For example, in book 2 it says that all of the bannermen to Winterfell had shown up except Howland Reed, and in book 3 Robb sends Lady Mormont and Jason Mallister to The Neck to meet up with Howland Reed
yeah i know who he is but its really tough to keep up with a lot of the names of people when they arent in the books all the time. i bet he's awesome because jojen and meera are great. so pumped for bran's story
In the House of the Undying, Dany sees the vision of the blue flower in a wall of ice, and is struck by the sweetness of it or something like that. Thats obviously a reference to Jon, and a good hint that Lyanna is his mother based off of Rheager giving her the blue flowers at the tourny, etc. But she also sees Rheager with a woman and a babe at her breast, and he says this is Aegon, the prince who was promised. His is the song of ice and fire. Could Rheager have been at the birth of Jon or would he have already been killed by Robert?
It's been a while since I've read the essay's about all this on ToweroftheHand but I think they believe that Rheagar might have misinterpretted his visions of the prince that was promised. That's still not saying it's Jon because most believe the prince that was promised is actually a princess, Dany.
I always wondered why 3 knights of the Kings guard would be guarding Lyana unless they were protecting Rhaegars son, and at that point the last remaining child of Rhaegar. Also in ADWD, Barristan says that Rhaegar always trusted Dayne more than him, so it would make sense that Dayne would know about Lyana being preggers with Rhaegars son.
for not ever really being a character in the books, Arthur Dayne is one of my favorite people mentioned. no idea why, he just sounds like a bad ass. plus having the nickname of "The Sword of the Morning" is fuckin sweet
not positive but that sounds right to me. somewhere either in storms end territory or the reach i think, without having looked it up.
