i love Blut Aus Nord's more melodic and folksy (Memoriam Vetusta trilogy) and/or psychedelic (Hallucinogens) output. i am not a fan of the dissonant style of black metal, generally, but i get the appeal. maybe i'm too soft.
i liked the new Vorga materially better than the previous one, which i own in physical and thought was just ok. the art, packaging, and overall vibe of the band is really cool. i bought the prior album basically unheard when i saw the artwork. my favorite track from the new one was The Cataclysm...real screamer.
Been listening to this for 3 weeks and it's super weird. It has all the elements of something I should love, and I just don't care for it at all.
I’m in same boat. I adored the last album, one of my favorite death metal albums in recent years. new one has a lot of the same elements as you said, but just doesn’t “hit” Idk
this accidentally went live early on spotify and i’ve listened to it three times already. they’re the kings of grind right now.
In my mind I kind of had them as a mix of the crust/black of Wormwitch and the melodic black of Mgla/Uada edit: which is to say, shit I love
i agree. historically their thing was Dissection meets Disfear. this year's album is more the former, less the latter.
if you like Dodsrit, one band that you should check out is Ancst. also from Germany, also blending melodic black metal and crust influences. their drummer is great. would start with Moloch and Ghosts of the Timeless Void.
like 800 plays in a week just between spotify and bandcamp and i’m sold out of cassettes. i know it’s not really this thread’s style but im v happy and honestly surprised at the general reception to it. looking at getting some pro tapes made since there’s still demand. i’m done hand-dubbing cassettes lol
I remember checking the mp3.com plays of my college emo band and getting pumped at a dozen plays in a day. Congrats on the release!
i had never heard of this band but saw the hype around this release. listened to it today and it was awesome. good shout.
new Darkthrone single is out, it rocks. i pre-ordered the 'Fenriz-edition' vinyl. also new Necrot today.
some other interesting filth i have been rocking Tzompantli, meso-American themed death / doom. the definition of pummeling. Coffins, Japanese death / doom that reminds me a bit of Gravesend. disgusting guitar tone.
The new Antichrist Siege Machine comes out next Friday. Early reviews are strong. Really looking forward to that one.
I liked the two singles so far. Hopefully seeing them on that 1349 tour. I don’t usually like ‘war metal’ or whatever, but the two new singles seem more song-like than most stuff from that genre. Like, you can actually distinguish riffs.
yeah this is really good unrelated, the new gatecreeper stuff is so disappointing. if you want to make accessible music, start a new band. i wouldn’t even consider them death metal anymore. the song the black curtain sounds like something erra would have written
I’m seeing them with In Flames and Creeping Death next month. TBH I enjoy their early stuff but even their latest record I wasn’t that into. Low key I’m most interested in Creeping Death from that show
A few noteworthy releases today: Hekseblad - Kaer Morhen (The Witcher themed black metal) Atrae Bilis - Aumicide (technical death metal) My Dying Bride - A Mortal Binding (death doom/gothic metal)
thanks a lot!! i appreciate that. i used the MT Power drum kit plugin - https://www.powerdrumkit.com/ on all that stuff. i’ve got some new material i’m finishing up and i’m using this plugin, it’s definitely an upgrade but not free https://ugritone.com/
Suffocation and Morbid Angel are past their prime, but I think they’re still fun to see live. and everyone should see Knoll at least once. i think it’s a solid lineup after summer’s laughter was so disappointing
