Four episodes in and the show is fun. Not exactly a brain fest out there but the smartest people will win out. Lots of game play, not a ton of contestant back story that always slows these new shows down.
I'm also enjoying it. My wife knew the Steve guy who won the 10k. I want to know how long this shit took to film.
its an interesting concept but the biggest problem I have with it is its not trivia. Like at all. 75% of the time its just naming the thing you see in the image. The rest of the time its fill in the blank. Thats not interesting or challenging or entertaining at all. I thought it was an interesting wrinkle to have to defend your territory based on the categories of the people you've taken it from but you literally don't have to know anything about it. Oh your category is bugs or plants or cars? Well I dont know anything about those but because I went to 2nd grade or have ever driven a car before I can name 99% of the shit that pops up. That old dude had to defend The Simpsons but the entire showdown was just identifying images of celebrities that had ever voiced a character. How the fuck is that at all Simpsons related? You could easily ace that entire thing without ever having seen a single second of the show. It's what I'd expect game shows to look like in Idiocracy.
Yeah, there's no way they're doing one episode and then coming back the next day. Those people claiming to study their new category are probably getting a little time between tapings but not an entire night.
It's a Fox show, pretty clear it's their attempt at "Trivia" for dummies. But it's not claiming to be anything other than that.
The dumbest thing is players thinking they need to challenge the big spaces (unless you only care about the small prize at the end of each show). You only need to win one duel to win the game in theory. Let others eliminate each other. Study your own category and your immediate neighbors. It’s all rote Wikipedia level memorization.
The winner will probably be one of the last people picked. Having large territory early is a death sentence
Was listening to a podcast that tangentially talked about the show today. Turns out, the show was taped in Ireland over two weeks. The contestants were flown out and told to have two identical outfits. They would tape a show, turn over their clothes to be laundered, put on a fresh set for the next day's taping. They did have a chance to study in between tapings. Now it makes sense that we see some people actively rooting for others because they had formed a bond over the course of the show.
The show I listened to mentioned that the set was already in place. Also, because the concept is picture recollection they didn't need to hire writers thereby skirting the strike.
Chick who had geography from the start couldn’t name things like Colombia, Spain, Barbados (give her a pass here) off the top, confused Iraq with Iran and Saudi Arabia. And thought Poland was Belarus. Pathetic showing.
