I was on searching for a movie to watch a few months ago and was like man I wish they would make more pacific rim, Godzilla type movies. Then saw this was coming out last week and got super excited
If someone would have described the first two episodes to me, I would have had very low expectations going in. But the execution of it was great so far and I'm intrigued to watch the rest of the way.
I thought this was gonna be a C+/B- show that was entertaining but dumb. NOPE! This show is incredible so far.
I think it's going to be really difficult to continue to do the era shifting if they continue it in every episode, but I was kind of shocked at how well they pulled it off in the first two. Hoping they can keep that going. I'm still not really sold on the 2015 crew with the brother/sister/girlfriend triangle, but hoping that goes a little smoother going forward after the awkward start to it.
2 questions I keep thinking. Who is John Goldman related to and who was he recording that video for? And are the kids actually Kurt Russel’s grandkids and not Anders?
I haven’t watched the newest episode, but I thought Goodman was Anders as an old man. And I’ve thought from the start those kids are actually Russell’s grandkids.
I'm not sure what you mean here. We're pretty clearly supposed to believe the video was for Hiroshi and the kids are his grandkids, right? I'm not sure how it would make sense otherwise. They all have his last name.
I don't think they're Russell's grandkids. Based on the timeline (according to Wiki), Skull Island was 1973. Hiroshi would have been born sometime in the mid/late 50s. So I think it makes enough sense that it's very believable that the relationship between Russell (Shaw) and Hiroshi is like Shaw says in e3 and that he's "like a son to him" because Randa would have died when he was still a teenager and the mom obviously died when he was extremely young. I'm not really sure what the point of that being a misdirect would be.
I think I needed to like or care about any of those characters for that episode to work for me. Unfortunately, I do not, so I was bored.
Newest episode has brought my interest back. The one before it about made me stop watching. Other than Ice mole being cool, I really didn't like anything else about it.
Haven't watched the most recent episode because it had an audience rating of something like 5.0 on IMDB, which was by far the lowest of the season (and one of the lowest I've ever seen on there). Might just let a couple episodes sit there the next couple weeks so I can binge through them later and not get as mad at the boring human stories.
I loved the last ep. Seeing the toll on Kate’s life is heartbreaking. Can’t wait for the trip to Africa.
Ended up watching e5 last night. It was better than e4, but these characters/actors just aren't it. And the difference between this show when there are awesome looking titans on the screen compared to just these three characters who can't figure out their motivations from one scene to the next for five straight episodes is enormous. I'm pot committed so I'll watch to the end, but I would appreciate it if something more interesting starts to happen.
Dropping a line like "the best part about kids is making them" and then needing the cold shower is a tough beat
It was made to focus on the humans vs monsters. But damn o know this and still want more monsters. If that big ass light isn’t some sort of big ass titan im gonna be upset
The story isn’t awful but just give me 10 mins of our big beefy boy stomping on shit, that’s what we all want
The AET->APEX reveal had me all confused. I didn’t do the math to realize this takes place between the (new) OG Godzilla movie and the one where he fights King Ghedorah.
That's about where I gave up. It didn't help that I went to see Minus One around that time. I have no desire to come back, and that more monsters less time travel comment makes me think I made the right decision.
May is honestly the only thing I don’t like about the show. I’m actually digging the Monarch mythology they’ve built into the show.
Appreciate what they’re trying to build but like everyone says need more monsters. Although I’m sure they’re trying to not go overboard with the budget.
The entire trio is atrocious and has been since the beginning. Some of it is more writing than the acting, but in general the characters in the show have sucked. Which is why everyone wants more monsters. But the fact that May is this much worse than the other two in that group is kind of amazing. Just awful.
I really enjoyed the season finale. It had some monster fighting that everyone wanted to see, and a nice cameo at the end by Skull Island's protector.
I am in the minority that less monsters is a better show but I do agree the acting is very hit or miss
Also my Physics complaint: If the portal sucked in that heavy ass pod, then it still would have sucked Lee in as well even after she let him go.
Saw this thread and started watching. Started off strong. But Season 1 Episodes 5 and 6 were garbage. Hoping it gets better. I mean 5 and 6 were very amateur hour , the writing was middle school level.
It really drags in the middle. Could of done well with one less character and a couple less episodes. And my kaiju action of course
