It's "experimental" right now so that's probably a safeguard for morons who will enable it then have buffering issues (lower live latency means less room for buffer) and not understand why. With a ~26 second standard latency, my buffer health sits between 15-20 seconds. Since reduced live latency is less than that already, my buffer health with it enabled is only about 5 seconds. So people with spotty internet (I have some friends who already bitch about Youtube TV buffering all the time and I'm just like... sorry your internet is bad) are likely to run into a lot more buffering with that setting enabled.
Yeah, if they get some remotely positive metrics from this, I bet they make it a permanent setting. I'm gigbit wired at home so my streams are always 'healthy'. It seems I jumped about 7-10 seconds forward using the setting, which incidentally matched the exact second of the livescore website I use for soccer on yesterday's matches.
The reduced broadcast delay has worked nicely for me so far. Very little buffering. During MNF it was running like a second or two behind my antenna. A little slower today but still much better than the typical streaming delay.
anecdotal: the espn gamecast for tonights SNF is roughly one play ahead of the 'decreased delay' or w/e its called. Stats for nerds says i have 18 seconds of latency iyam edit: turned decreased delay off and SFN days 23 seconds of latency. sounds like is a reasonable assumption that decreased delay in good conditions can be easily a 5 second improvement.
Is FOX or the B1G going to come up with a way to stream games on FOX networks? Seems like the sports programming of the future is: Max: Looks like they're airing any game on TNT/TBS. Plus they do some soccer stuff. I'm curious if they'll stream March Madness? ESPN+: Assuming they allow all games to be on the app Peacock: EPL if you're into that plus they do some B1G stuff Paramount: A lot of soccer plus I'd imagine some B1G stuff will be on here I already have Max, HBO, and Peacock. Wouldn't mind shedding YTTV to pickup Paramount+ and some sort of FOX sports streaming app. Just please don't make me partially cover FOX News Could just get Sunday Ticket and MLB on top of this (assuming MLB start allowing local games to be aired). I saw League Pass is also going for only $50.
I think you are already there Espn and espn + are kept two totally separate things As far as I can tell, you have to have a subscription to espn+ for its content and you have to have a separate subscription to pretty much any 'cable like' provider to get espn Like a friend can't currently watch the 30 for 30 on reggie white because he doesn't have cable service, but he pays for espn+. It's so dumb
Already been happening. Last season of Billions was shown on P+, along with other Showtime programming ...
I don't really get your question or issue but sporting events that are aired on Fox, FS1, FS2, B1G Network. Are also aired/available on the Fox Sports app. B1G+ is it's own app or service apart from everything else. That's for basically all of the other sports that don't make it on BTN
Does the FOX Sports app fill these two basic requirements 1) not being a massive piece of shit that doesn’t work consistently 2) can I view its content without having a cable service tied to it?
1) I don't use it consistently but when I have, I've never had a problem. 2) You can view highlights and shit like that without one but like ESPN you need a provider login for any of their live TV channels.
Fox has made a point of not having a standalone streamer. Not sure if they will stay that way or not but they’re the one that hasn’t spent billions on a streamer
No, Fox grabbed TUBI, one of the best, if not only true free streaming apps, which is like world tallest midget, etc. For instance for the last world cup, replays were on Tubi in 4k, for free, via ads, technically. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubi
1) I have problems with it occassionally on tv apps, fwiw. web is better. 2) It will often say "you have a 30 minute preview" or something similar where it will play, but at the end, show you the login screen to validate your providers (e.g. cable or internet, satellite, or even dorm room) access to these channels.
Sorry, meant that they haven’t tried to launch their brand new/branded streaming service that includes DTC sports. Tubi is great
wish these leagues would pool all their local rights and put it on one streaming service behind a paywall then sublicense out a nominal % of games to a local channel that has a desire for the inventory
I've posted this multiple times before - just happened again. Chase, Amex and BoA, never seems to disappear.
The media companies are buried in debt and subscriptions are decling/stagnant/etc Mergers are coming to reduce debt
Not a surprise considering kids and YouTube, but this still a pretty staggering number in less than 10 years. “In 2014, the first year we started this report, Disney Channel was a top 10 network, with nearly 2 million viewers. In 2023, Disney Channel is ranked No. 80, with 132,000 viewers. Nickelodeon (-34%), Disney Channel (-26%), Disney Junior (-27%), Nick Jr. (-34%), Cartoon Network (-19%) all know that kids aren’t watching linear TV, and they’re certainly not watching linear TV in primetime.”
It’s a pretty smart concept until boomers and older Gen Xers die off. Get syndication rights to Dick Wolf and CBS procedural dramas, and do a marathon of each show one day a week.
They got rights to NWSL and WNBA games recently as well. And I believe picked up some local rights in other leagues of teams whose RSNs went under.
Is anyone else’s YTTV fucked up tonight? Kept buffering like crazy. Had to go over to ESPN app and that’s working much better
