It's really mind blowing just how massive the universe is. When I try to wrap my head around it, it is overwhelming. The amount of life that certainly exists out there. It's crazy. Meanwhile, we're fighting and killing each other over whose god is cooler. We'll probably blow up the earth one day because we can't comprehend just how incredible our existence is.
Listening to Brian Cox explain the size of the universe really fucks with my pea brain. https://youtube.com/shorts/Y_qx4G025Ug?si=0xYxu1b_ZwwgLcQU
Brian Cox is everything Neil Degrasse Tyson wishes he was. He's the true successor to Sagan, imo. I love listening to him.
Pour one out for Frank Borman https://arstechnica.com/space/2023/...the-first-mission-to-orbit-the-moon-has-died/
My boss got me watching this old BBC show called “the sky at night” and the first episode i can find is from 1960. So just after the Russians managed to do a lunar flyby, and before any manned space flight. And it blows my mind how recklessly fast the space race was; just the idea of going from “we managed to take pictures of the dark side of the moon” to “we threw a guy into orbit” to “we had a motherfucker undock a little space ship from a marginally larger space ship, manually land it on the moon, and then launch off the moon and redock with the larger ship” in less than ten years.
