Torn right now. Really, REALLY want to see Steely Dan this year but I don't really want to pay Eagles farewell tour prices to see a 30 minute set.
Saw the Doobie Brothers w/ Michael McDonald tonight, one of their encore songs was Pretzel Logic with an extended jam that was delightful.
Heading to msg tomorrow night. Hoping for an hour plus of SD but not sure what to expect. Hopefully enough to fully indoctrinate my wife.
Gonna become one of those funko pop guys but only with Steely Dan and it’s studio musicians. Jeff “Skunk” Baxter will be a real find but I think WENDEL will be my most valued one.
I went on Friday but it sounds like it was the exact same on Thursday and Friday. They start around 10 minutes after the concert starts and played for an hour. Donald sounded pretty good overall but definitely relies on the backup singers at times (they sang the entirety of Dirty Work). I had never seen them live before, so it was pretty amazing to hear songs like Peg, Aja, Kid Charlemagne, My Old School live. My biggest gripe would be that as an opener, the energy isn’t great in the arena. People are still getting to their seats, having their first drink, etc. By the time the eagles started, people were on their feet more and getting into it more readily. Chatting with the old dude next to me between acts, I think I blew his mind when I said I liked Steely Dan more than The Eagles. He was dumbfounded. I’m a casual Eagles fan and thought they were good. Don Henley and Vince Gill sound just like they do on albums. Joe Walsh stole the show. He’s old as hell but fucking rocks and is hilarious.
I've been debating seeing them, but wasn't sure I wanted to pay Eagles ticket prices, drive four hours each way, and see a 30 minute set from the only band I would go out of my way to see. An hour set gives me something to think about.
Saw these guys on a random youtube rec tonight. Mostly from Russia and Eastern Europe. They do a bunch of old Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire covers. I don't know how many SD songs they do, but this one is great. They're on tour rn now in the states. Probably be a good show. http://leonidandf.com/tour.html
Hate to dox, but gotta shout out Clown Baby for finally learning this part of Black Cow. He spent the better part of a decade trying to learn it and lost his family, friends, and house in the process, but damn he fucking nailed it here.
