Glass half full view is she made up the child story so she could disappear? I don’t know, looks real bad with what’s been reported.
So as reported someone used a child to bait someone to pull over but for what purpose? They didn't rob her so that would be the obvious reason.
This story has been all over local social media the past two days. Scariest part about it is that it isn’t like this was in some secluded and empty area; the mile marker she called from is right next to a big mall and heavily populated highway in Hoover.
Her car was found with the door open and all of her stuff (phone, purse, etc.) still there. She was almost certainly abducted.
Probably unrelated but a woman with a crying baby was seen going around a nearby community in Shoal Creek banging on doors last night. Secluded area so very odd
My first question after reading this story was to wonder if there had been any similar MOs reported in other states (toddler on the side of the road). This seems too calculated to be a one-time thing.
It seems like a much less trafficked area and time would have been chosen to do this but I also don’t abduct humans for a living. I would have thought if a ~3 year old was walking alone on the side of a highway there would be calls to 911 by everyone that passed by and saw them. Maybe there was.
I don’t know any serial killers off the top of my head that used this strategy. But multiple books and television shows have killers that have used children as bait to find their next victim. Usually catch, keep, and torture killers. Stating the obvious, but using a child increases the likelihood of a female stopping in a place that she normally wouldn’t. Maternal instincts overpowering the survival ones for a short period. The child’s safety becomes more important than her own. Trafficking makes sense. But usually the preferred targets are young women or girls. Using a child as bait would be more successful with slightly older women. Either way, it’s definitely not a good outcome for the poor lady that was abducted.
But what an incredibly inefficient setup. What if a passing cop was the first to stop? It’s an interstate highway.
That was my first thought. I’m just glad I don’t have to keep up with it in the news bc every girl I know on social media is giving constant updates
Unless she was specifically targeted, and the abductor knew her routine and when she would be passing by. Still risky af. But I guess kidnapping a person always is. And if the kid was also a victim. Likely wouldn’t know/have seen enough about the perp to tell authorities what they would need to catch the guy. And if someone stopped before the target, he could bail and go replace the kid.
It was not paragraph one. This is a major highway. The odds of her happening to be in that lane to see the child were slim.
At this point, the mysterious disappearance of Whammy following Elon Musk's repeated Twitter failures despite assurances otherwise from The Valley should be featured in this thread.
Afraid there is another another victim. Kid is either abducted or the mother is hurt in the other car.
Maybe there was never a kidnapping/child? Looks like she had her blinkers on for a while before stopping
Am I an asshole for thinking it’s fake? The Q anon wet dream movie is all over the place and then this happens. I feel like an asshole for being skeptical.
Saw something that said maybe she was let free cause there was so much media coverage; but I doubt that. Don’t think somebody willing to abduct another is worried about that kind of thing.
I think it was a mental issue as well. She stopped taking her meds and had this spell. It happens every day.
The Hoover Police Department is releasing additional information on the safe return of Carlee Russell. Since the time of the 911 call at 9:34 PM on July 13, 2023 the Hoover Police Department has expended every available resource into locating Carlee, and we celebrate with the Russell family on her safe return at approximately 10:44 PM on July 15th. The following information are facts we have been able to determine at this point in the investigation. We are still gathering and evaluating evidence in this case. Carlee left work from a business at The Summit in Birmingham at approximately 8:20 PM. She ordered food from a nearby business at The Colonnade and traveled there. We have worked to retrace all of her actions from the time she left The Colonnade until she called 911 and are well on our way to completing that task. At this point in the investigation, we have not been able to locate anyone with Carlee from the time she left The Colonnade until the 911 call was made. Carlee communicated on her cell phone with individuals known to her while on her path of travel up to the point of calling 911 at 9:34 PM. The conversation with the 911 operator ended and Carlee called a relative. She went missing during that conversation sometime after 9:36 PM after telling both the 911 operator and the relative she had seen a male toddler in a diaper on the side of I-459 and was stopping to check on him. Traffic camera footage was obtained which depicted this portion of the incident, and that footage is still being analyzed as part of the investigation in conjunction with the 911 call to accurately determine the timeframe. Carlee’s 911 call remains the only timely report of a child on the interstate. Hoover Police officers arrived on scene within five minutes of being dispatched, and several other officers arrived shortly behind. They located Carlee’s wig, cell phone and purse on the roadway near her vehicle, and Carlee’s Apple Watch was in her purse. Investigators with the Crimes Against Persons Unit were notified and the investigation immediately began in earnest with numerous leads being followed. Many local, state, and federal agencies immediately offered assistance and provided personnel and other resources to the investigation. No stone was left unturned and the investigation continued throughout the weekend. At 10:44 PM on July 15th, the Hoover 911 center received a call from Carlee’s residence that she had returned home on foot. Hoover Police and Fire responded to the residence where Carlee was located. She was immediately transported by the Hoover Fire Department to UAB Hospital to be evaluated and was treated and released. Detectives responded to the residence and to UAB to take an initial statement from Carlee. The details of that statement are a part of the ongoing investigation which is expected to continue over the next few days. During the initial portion of the investigation detectives were able to retrace nearly all of Carlee’s steps until the point she went missing and are confident that will continue to be the case. The Hoover Police Department continues to be extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from the Hoover community and beyond, and all of the assistance provided by our law enforcement partners which are too numerous to name. We rejoice with the Russell family as they continue to rest and recover from this situation and ask for their wishes to be respected regarding their privacy. This release contains all the information the Hoover Police Department is able to release at this time. As we continue to investigate we will release information that is determined to be factual and pertinent to the public. When a press conference is scheduled we will provide advance notice of the date, time and location. HOOVER POLICE DEPARTMENT
Ehhh beyond the situation being weird, is there anything in her history that suggest she would fake it?
I doubt enough is known about her to make that call. But, given the two scenarios in question, one is obviously the most likely scenario She was the only individual to spot a toddler walking along a busy Highway. And that toddler was used to abduct her, but she was able to escape without incident and walked home She faked the calls, ran away, and then Showed up at home hours later
I know what you’re saying The framing on social media was also extremely interesting as everyone on my wife’s feed said she was getting human trafficked, which there was not evidence for just didn’t know if there was any reason to think it was 100% made up or something else
it's sad that I'm immediately skeptical of anything that involves human trafficking at this point. this seems more like a mental break than something that was faked to me.
I like the Facebook posts directed at middle class white women to be on the lookout for shit like their windshield wipers being pulled up in the Target parking lot because it means a guy is hiding under your car who will grab your ankles and drag you to a life of sex servitude in Brazil. It’s honestly disappointing because it distracts from the actual places sex workers are recruited from but because that usually involves drugs or poor people it isn’t going to get the air time on Brylynne’s social media accounts.
I haven’t followed this story but to me that’s what someone would do if they were driving down the highway, saw a child or thought they saw a child, took an exit and turned around and put on hazards driving slow down the side of the road looking for said child
