My guess is they do something like “the Gov roped off Hawkins because of the ‘Earthquake’ and forced everyone to sign NDAs. The Mind Flayer/Vecna have been rebuilding their army/energy and now it’s 5 years later they will finally attack.” I bet Will is the host they use to launch the invasion. Also he’ll kill Hopper in front of Mike, Joyce, El and El will get ready to snap his neck while the other 2 cry for her not to, there will be music and drama, then the episode will end.
Spoiler I don't know if it was the best season or not, but I thought it was extremely good. I agree with most everyone on the Byers boys being the weakest characters. I don't care if Will is gay or not (love what you love, man), but he just doesn't add much to the scenes that he's in. I hope Nancy breaks up with Jonathan and gets back with Steve. I will say that the scene in the van (after Will gave Mike the painting) hit me in the feels a bit when Jonathan was looking at him in the mirror. Idk I guess it was just the brotherly connection or something that got me there. Loved the Dustin scene with Eddie's uncle and the guitar part was amazing. Thought the jock villain kid was mostly lame but I did enjoy the play on the Satanic Panic stuff. They maybe spent a bit too much time in Russia but it didn't really take away from the viewing experience imo. Said it earlier ITT but Sadie Sink is just spectacular. And all of the music in this show
it’s just two more years, not 5 or 10. Young 20 year olds regularly play high schoolers in movies. They already aged a bunch from season 3 to 4, who cares if they age a little again.
Why does anyone still think the mind flayer is important? They showed vecna creating it based off his liking of spiders. Vecna is clearly the ultimate bad guy.
just finished eps 1-7 and think i can do ep 8 tonight before i go to sleep really liked 1-7 though i'm definitely ready for the crew to all be together soon. can't really stand will, mike, the new stoner pizza guy, or the basketball vigilante star but the main core is so good and the villain is fun this shit is gruesome, though. i don't really watch horror movies so this show has shown me more violence against teenaged people than anything i've ever seen. hard not to think of school shootings when seeing the massacre in the training center, etc.
Random Pondering Spoiler Wondering if Max's ambiguous ending is a Harrison Ford in ESB where they're not sure if Sadie Sink is going to come back for S5
oh is THAT why he took a glance at Mike having fun with Argyle and El playing try the pineapple pizza and started crying in the salt water that he was sad-stirring?
The dude playing Lucas was phenomenal in the last episode. One of the better performances of the series imo.
To me it seemed like the "mind flayer" was just a cloud of particles, similar to the ones bottled up in Russia, that Vecna took control of and made into an actual spider shaped monster for a season.
Ok I just rewatched that part and 001 does use his powers to shape the cloud into his spider, which suggests that he’s in control. I wonder if they decided that the villain needed to take some kind of semi-human form to make the final battles more interesting or satisfying.
Spoiler Vecna may have gave it a shape but the mind flayer/particles are what run the upside down and turned Vecna into what he his. He didn’t just get all wormy because El whipped his ass. That’s why they’re the real enemy and Dustin says that Vecna is a general in their army
I read a vox(?) article that said the Dustin thing was proven wrong in the piggyback idk man we’ve got 2 years to talk ourselves into some wild theories that will all be wildly incorrect. Or maybe they’ll see one and steal it. Writing hasn’t started.
Mind Flayer was probably like… “this dude could be useful, sure I’ll play spider for ya.” Vecna is the only pawn he had to open more gates.
These could very well end up being true. But it wouldn't make a ton of sense to keep Vecna alive going into the final season if he wasn't going to be the chief antagonist as for the bolded part in your spoiler Hoss Bonaventure Vecna made it a point to repeat multiple times that El made him what he is (both by sending him there initially and by being Brenners upside-down tracker). There was a huge information dump in the scene with Max/El/Henry so I'd have to rewatch it to know specifics since I watched both eps Friday and haven't rewatched. Just going off memory and remember him belaboring that point to El in that scene
So I zoned out in the Russia portion ending. But I remember them seeing the black powder stuff. Then I remember the Russian officer saying the monsters snorted the black powder. Then I remember Vecna finding his own fat shipment of black powder and making the mind flayer out of it. So is the black powder gonna play a bigger role in next season? Or is it all snorted up after this season? If there was a conclusion to that plot point I missed it.
Think it was a call back to an earlier conversation in the lunch room. Something along the lines of “this is my year”.
Spoiler also I think Max is gonzo for now. Vecna gonna use her soulless ginger carcass to make moves in the right side up. Then at some point towards the end or a crucial point we’ll get the “buh gawd that’s Max’s music” and he spirit or whatever will come from out of nowhere and drop an elbow from the top of the cage of the upside down to get her body back
Just rewatched with subtitles. "Cause I'm actually gonna graduate. I think it's my year, Henderson. I think it's finally my year." Yeah a callback to the earlier episode. Also I guess Joseph Quinn improvised the "I love you man" line.
finished the season. i can't even remember how i felt about seasons 1-3 (though i suppose i generally liked them as i've kept watching) but season 4 was killer everything with eddie in the finale was dope. i was legit shocked at what they did to max. i also thought el was going to reverse her damage or something; didn't 001 turn back time or something earlier in the season? maybe i didn't understand that part but i thought he somehow reversed something.
Spoiler Yeah I need to do a rewatch of it as well. I think Vecna is the boss that El has to fight but there was an upside down before she sent him there and I think we get more of the meaning of the particles. I know they said S5 would have the origin of the upside down.
Eddie Munson was based off of Damien Echols part of the West Memphis Three who was wrongfully convicted of the murders of three 8 yr old boys back in the 80s strictly because they were metalheads
Spoiler Loved Eddie as a character but I thought his death was pointless. He accomplished nothing by staying in the upside down and drawing the bats to him. The other group was already in vecnas house so the distraction was no longer needed. His whole I didn’t run away this time just didn’t make sense to me. Still was super sad but I wish his death had actually served a better purpose.
Spoiler They were trying to get into the trailer where there was an opening to Hawkins. Could they have gone through and he was trying to draw them away from that? That’s how I interpreted his actions
Finished last night, catching up itt... Spoiler This season was fucking dope, yet I agree with Corch 's take about the Duffers kicking the can down the road because they aren't sure how to end it, I was roughly the same age as these kids during that part of the 80s and they did a fantastic job recreating the D&D/Metal hysteria tied into Satanic cults that was prevalent at that time. My parents completely bought into that stuff and it was all forbidden in our house. Hell I wasn't even allowed to watch the Smurfs back then (a story I've told here before). I didn't mind the Russia stuff because of Murray fucking Bauman, that and I really liked the prison guard who was trying to help Hopper escape. I can't rank the seasons because I like them all for different reasons Robin's crush rocking the Molly Ringwald look was a nice touch Will's barber should be shot Sadie Sink was incredible and the kid who played Lucas did a bang up job too After the Vecna stuff, I was totally prepared for the military to show up to try to take out 11 RIP Eddie
Are there any theories out there about the numbering/naming of One and Eleven? Like 001 was the OG then 011 came and whooped his ass.
The naming is just their number in the program. 1 was first, El was the 11th kid. The one girl (8 I think?) escaped but all the others were killed by 1.
Yes I get that. But since this is a made up story these numbers were chosen for the characters. Could be coincidence but also wouldn’t be surprised if the writers chose it as a Bob Ross happy accident.
not sure what you're looking for, are you suggesting there is significance with the #s 1, 11, 8? like an Easter egg or something?
