Never played the game or consumed any other Halo content. I liked the first episode. Pretty troupe-y but I liked it
Don't worry, neither did the people making the show. https://screenrant.com/halo-show-video-game-comparison-writer-play-response/ Obviously a little bit of an exaggeration/misinterpretation as explained by the author near the end of the article. Still kinda weird though.
I’ve never played the games or know anything about the storyline and I enjoyed it. Maybe that’s not a good thing though if it’s really far off if the source material.
I played the games a long time ago but haven't kept up and am not tied to the idea of being "true" to the original...I just want to be entertained. I think it's off to a good start.
Just started. I haven't really kept up with the story in the games other than playing a game here or there, so not too worried personally about how closely it sticks to the games. I am a little confused on how the world works, though. What makes the bullets from the Spartans effective in that first battle, over what the insurrectionists are shooting? The heavy machine guns were useless at the start when the rebel was shooting it, but then the spartan ripped it off the truck and easily mowed down 3 or 4.
the show takes place before the events of the first Halo game. the spartans weapons fire specialized bullets that allow them to penetrate and drain the covenant's shields - they discuss it in the fall of reach book which i think S1 is going to cover. by 2552 (the show date) the spartans have been fighting the covenant for i think 7 years, and over that time they've taken the technology from the covenant and adapted it to make themselves stronger. the spartans now have overshields, like the covenant, and their bullets are specialized to drain the shields. no explanation for the minigun, probably just an oversight or something
Isn't this also a little after the fall of reach timeline wise? Also, easy minigun explanation: the spartans are stronger and can squeeze the trigger harder making the bullets more effective. Or excuse they may likely use: covenant shield was already weakend from prolonged combat.
I said what I said about the mini gun, but definitely still enjoyed the episode. Action scenes weren't very good (first person kills were especially cheesy) but enjoyed everything outside of that.
Yeah, the production value isn’t where I thought it would be. Feels like this isn’t going to last long. Fans of the game will be divided because it really doesn’t follow the story of the games much at all. And I can’t imagine it will draw a huge audience outside of that with the quality we’re seeing. It seems fine as a Sci Fi Channel show, but my feeling is they’re spending more on it than that and will want a much bigger audience.
First episode is out on YouTube for free. I thought it was fine. I’ll probably watch it and enjoy it for what it is. I thought it was funny they got a human big bad now. Just a reminder that cgi is expensive.
First episode was intriguing, 2nd was bad have it in my I’ll continue for awhile without really paying much attention to category of shows
yeah, I saw that. Can't imagine a 3rd getting done. They might lose a ton on season 2. But it seems to be the trend these days with these big, new properties. If season 2 isn't already a go, people are slow to latch on, so they kinda have to commit to it. Is Microsoft helping fund this or is it all on Paramount?
They'll rush to get to the flood because the producers won't be able to resist getting space zombies on the show.
This feels so low budget Completely uninspired, especially the cinematography. Just clips along from basically shit scene to basically shit scene like an episode of GREY’S ANATOMY All the decisions with MC completely misunderstand the character. Just a generic soldier now All the side stories should have “filler to save CGI budget” slapped on their foreheads Just brutal
As someone who's never watched grey's anatomy, what are those episodes like? Are they filled with a guy doing a bad older jacked up smoker's voice Dave Chappelle impersonation like this? I'm letdown it didn't have more space action and actual fighting in it, but I get that they're badly following the formula laid out to try to make fights meaningful. But the series was built in having big space battles and fights within it that moved a story along. It's like they took a look at it and said fuck that shirt we don't have budget for it. Let's focus on telling this backstory people skipped through cut scenes of to enjoy the game. Or they blew it all on the cgi sausage snakes and Cortana. Because death by fucking sausage snakes felt cheap and shitty. That didn't seem like the right protocol for taking someone on board from an enemy ship. Would've thought they'd send someone to the ship to check it out first. Life support failing or not. At this point I'm down to hate watch this show. And doors that guy want to hook up with his boss or what? How cringy was it to watch that guy?
This show is bad and outside of the opening battle scene, barely even feels like it’s the same world. Might as well just call it “Generic Future Soldier War”
I’ve had a sneaking suspicion this was another show they had scripts and assets for that they slapped Halo IP onto later in the process
between this and what's happening with the game, hard to be optimistic about the future of this as a franchise. MS/343 killed it.
"hey you know what will be great with borderlands in space?" >"Hit me Doug" "let's add Halo to it. Only, not really. So we can do our project on someone else's dime". >"You sonofabitch, I'm in. Pass the cocaine"
Asian girl sidestory shouldn't even be a thing. Remarkably few action scenes with Master Chief kicking ass.
It’s moving so slow. Makes me think this entire first season is gonna be build up. Like GoT where they hype up the White Walkers, and then we get a glimpse in the final episode teasing it to the next season. Kwan’s side story wouldn’t be so annoying if she didn’t make ridiculous decisions. That whole sequence of her going back to Madrigal was bullshit. Soren should’ve just jettisoned her out an airlock and been done with it. One weird thing I can’t get past, Pablo Schreiber’s (Master Chief) nose. It looks so weird to me every time he’s on screen. Like one of those proboscis monkeys or something. Keep your helmet on man. Looks cooler anyway.
They've been in it since the first episode's initial attack but have only lightly discussed who they are and the mystery of what they're looking for and why. Such drama. Much suspense. Wow.
Watched the first two episodes last night. Think it's enjoyable so far. Really doesn't make sense that the directors/writers didn't pay any attention to the games. Also the scene transitions are so weird. Just cuts off to black screen for like 5 seconds.
Natascha McElhone gets better with age. Two episodes in as well and it’s not bad. Sometimes has a feel of first season of The Expanse and their cheap sets.
Last 10 minutes was finally what I'd like to see from the start. Halo and not some rip off story with Halo's IP slapped on it.
I have stopped watching but am depending on you folks to let me know if it improves and I should return to it. Thank you all for your sacrifice.
