I think if you're not pretty sucked in by the end of the first episode then it's probably not the show for you.
Finished it. Show was disturbing early on. I think you get acclimated to it . It becomes intriguing and has a depth and range of emotion. The characters have depth. Enjoyed it very much overall.
Anti-Vaxxers, imo. Unlimited entries. Unlimited Ivermectin. Winner gets a billion* *has to get vaxxed
I stay up way too late and take daily naps bc my work is 6-2/3. Anyways, naps produce absolutely crazy dreams and today it was a weird version of squid game involving people and crocodiles. I happened to kill Shelley Meyer and others before I fell into a crocodile infested river where they tore me up, was a good nap /coolstory
Thought the whole show was ridiculous and laughed at most of it. I sometimes struggle to suspend my disbelief and I can’t appreciate things because of it.
Catching up on the thread. Loved the show and have seen most of it twice now. If a 2nd season comes out and that bolded part of the spoiler is actually the plot I'll be really fucking disappointed considering that's just not his character at all and it wouldn't be the least bit believable. They could try to sell the "experience changed him" or whatever but it didn't transform a guy who was crying while signing off his organs in a racetrack bathroom into a mastermind capable of taking down an evil empire of wealthy elites from all over the world. Dude was still a pacifist at the end of the season
People competing in deadly games for a prize isn't an absurd premise it's actually a theme of lots of great cinema over the past 20-30 years
https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-...eet-meet-the-globally-derided-squid-game-vips Interesting read and perspective from the VIP actors. The main one is obnoxious but the rest is enlightening about why their dialogue was so fucked up.
Spoiler the detective who got shot is the biggest loose end for me. I kept thinking that they would follow up on that story line. I'm assuming he got enough information out there through his cell on the island to allow the police to have a good lead on the bad guys. Also thought he probably wasn't dead and would somehow survive.
getting shot somewhere besides the head and falling into a body of water before dying on screen = 99% chance of survival in hollywood
Especially since, as someone else pointed out, the Front Man had been capping people right between the eyes up until that point. Hitting him in the shoulder seemed intentional.
It is interesting knowing what we know now, looking back that Spoiler they let 001 be the final vote to decide to end the game or continue which obviously makes sense since he was the creator. However it’s interesting instead of the obvious choice of letting the game go on he chose to end it equally messed up that he pretty much planted the seed in Gi-hun’s head about going back after they got out and he “ran into him” at that market he was eating at and he said he had decided to go back
He knew the people would come back. They always come back. The episode was called Hell and that wasn't describing the games.
true, but makes you wonder if Gi- hun would have come back if he hadn’t told him he was going back. that seemed to really plant the seed in his head after his initial reaction of “are you nuts?!”
I can’t remember but that was before he found out about his mom needing surgery right? I think even without the old mans interference knowing he had to beg his ex-wife’s new husband (who his kid calls dad) for money to save his mom because he’s wasted his life would of made him return. I think that scene and the ending was just to show that the old man was also playing a side game trying to corrupt (an imperfect) but noble soul. He wanted the joy of knowing he could turn his heart black. I bet the front man was a lot like Gi-hun before his contest and that’s why old man liked him close, he kept him as a trophy.
The show is actually a social critic of the human race about how we sometimes lose sight of what makes us happy and chase a dream that will take us on a disgusting journey. it seems so obvious. At the end the winner still just wants 10 000 won. He did not need all the money, he just needed his family.
Did read that in the file that Jun-Ho finds that shows his brother as one of the participants that his brother, the front man, used to be a police officer and was fired for corruption would explain how he knew such much about the ballistics and police protocol etc
Just finished. Probably my favorite show of the year. Spoiler would like a 2nd season, but I'm not sure they could recreate the angst/terror. Definitely not if they bring the winner back. A little disappointed in the ending. Would have loved to see him big dick the stepdad with all that cash. More disappointed that my wife started it and is watching the dubbed version. Just doesn't feel the same
Saw one theory that the old man set up that moment when the police arrive right at midnight to get Gi- hun to believe in humanity again. Could make sense after he found out that he hadn’t touched his winnings and was still living like he did before which I’m sure went against what the old man expected him to do after he and the rest of the winners go back to society
The fact Gi-hun was observing from on high at a man’s fate, whether he would live or die, means the old man won. Gi-hun became everything he protested against at the car manufacturer. All he had to do was walk down there, help the homeless man and walk back up and he would’ve won the wager. Instead, he watched.
I pretty much started speeding through it after game 3 or so when I decided it was all tedious, certain characters were beyond grating Spoiler the double takedown on the bridge was at least a little satisfying and the absurdity of this one cop with a few bullets infiltrating a wildly well resourced operation was just a little too much. I liked it nowhere near as much as most of you. Also I don't care what excuse they have for the god awful miserable VIPs - they were entirely unwatchable. I also love how none of the players ever broach the topic of it being literally only one of them that gets to live *and* end up with the money until the very end stages. Lousy.
