I've watched them twice, once with my wife. A little goofy and see where it goes, but overall it's enjoyable so far.
I still upset with both of you for being mean to Notre Dame on Sunday but you're right, this show is great
to me, the combo of Steve and Martin was just poppin in this week’s episode (ep 5, for future readers)
Enjoying the first episode so far, real good dynamic between the main three characters. Poster for Newark! Newark! cracked me up.
Really liking this show, had no idea what to expect heading into it but enjoying the mystery, and love Martin Short and Steve Martin
Even though this week’s episode didn’t move the plot too much, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife commented on how great detective Williams pregnant girlfriend’s boobs looked. “Yes, yes. I agree. I definitely hadn’t noticed it before you said that…but now that you mention it they sure do!”
This is amazing the question for the crowd is: how long did it take before you figured out they were going all the way with the theme? for me… about 3-5 mins after the opening credits
Hot take, but I have watched every episode, and some twice. I am not getting all of the praise for this show at all. The mystery is garbage. Martin and Short are fools. There is a moment here or there, but overall it is a poorly written murder mystery. I think the best moments of the show are still back in the Sting episode. Not trying to yuck anyone's yum, but when I see comments about how great it is with no reasons I get curious.
No I haven't seen why you guys like it. I am just trying to understand what I am not seeing, because I am at best lukewarm on this show. Your response doesn't answer the question.
Well, as for me, I just reviewed my comments. "Boomers Rule" and "Selena Gomez has an irritating voice". I think this show is a clever take on the true crime serial pod genre, and I think Short and Martin are legends, but I don't think it's over-the-top great or anything. Just amused by your coming to a thread about a show you don't like to tell people you don't like it, and prefacing it "with all due respect"-style.
I haven’t come into the thread. I’ve been here since the beginning watching along with everyone else and just surprised by how overly positive it is. For the record my wife really enjoys it also and I’ve tried to find things to like but each week I keep asking myself is this it? My initial comment was its enjoyable so far, but I just don’t feel it’s been any better than the Sting episode which was amusing to me.
Maybe tell me what you like about it without being butt hurt that I haven't been able to see it on my own. (or just go on making statements without reasons)
It feels like your response is satire. Let's keep criticizing the person with the opinion, but not answer why. I am watching this show with all of you guys and wanting to enjoy it more than I have. I am seeing comments like amazing episode, they don't miss, etc. Why is it unreasonable to ask what it is you guys are finding enjoyable or amazing about it in a thread meant to have discussion about a show? Who knows, maybe that perspective will allow me to look at it another way and get what I wanted to out of the show. I get that everyone is protective about things they like, but I'm just trying to understand what has been so amazing. I am not criticizing (outside of sharing a couple of things that I feel don't work), as much as trying to understand what are the things that you think make this a great show. From my perspective it's goofy, but not all that funny. It's a mystery, but not one that allows you to share in trying to solve it. It's a parody of real crime podcasts and I guess if I was into them I may connect more with the parallel's. Is that why some of you who love it feel the connection? I'm just not clear on what I am missing here, as I like most shows that this board also likes. I feel like...
Seen 4 eps so far. Liking it a lot. Glad to see some other people know about this show, feel like it's buried on Hulu
Of course it is. The ridiculousness is part of the appeal. It's a comedy. I haven't seen every ep yet, but the one I just finished ended with "our biggest sponsor is now our prime suspect." Of course that's tongue in cheek. Many things they do would not work at all and would in fact be very dangerous or damaging to their personal reputation. Then here's this jackass Martin Short leaning in with a boom mic
His character is just a perfect mashup of his comedic style. The “brain freeze” was just amazing Short style comedy.
And Steve Martin plays the straight man so well, probably because he is just as good as Short at playing the goof and knows what you need from the straight man. Nathan Lane is a wonderful comic actor as well, though his character is pretty restrained.
