Spoiler finished the season. Of course I enjoyed every second and loved the fascism angle but not a fan of a lot of parts. First off, Michael is a terrible villain and really supposed to buy that performance. He's clearly gonna be part of the group but no idea who the other party is if it's not the Scots which it didn't seem to be. Pretty weak writing this season to me
Yeah, the whole plot felt messy this season. Enjoyable, sure, but it didn’t hold me like it has before.
Spoiler Any good theories about how the plan to kill the fascist leader was spoiled? My guess is Polly. Just a weird coincidence she leaves right before Tommy is bested and her son is claiming to have big plans in America. Also, it was convenient her new husband was killed, freeing her of a marriage she was coerced in. Plus the convo she has with Tommy if he would kill her and Michael seemed to be her attempt to give Tommy one more chance, but Tommy did not pass when he did not hesitate saying he'd do what he had to do.
Spoiler They pretty clearly showed Finn spill the beans and then the guy helping fix football matches pick up the phone. I don’t think there’s anything more to it than that.
Spoiler It seemed whoever knew the plan knew every single detail down to the second on when the shot was supposed to happen. Certainly could be implied detailed conversations with the football player off screen we never saw. But the only thing we saw was Finn mention it as he was leaving. If that is all Finn said, don't see him having enough info to stop it is my thought process. But don't take me as dismissing it being him. I think it is a strong chance
Who Michael is with is the huge question, maybe his cunt wife has some huge backing. Not sure the writers really know either. Just think he's a horrible villain Tommy has been through fucking everything and Michael as his biggest foe is weak.
yeah, it was obviously Michael. Probably with some backing of the US mob. Don’t love it, but the mob will probably do away with Michael soon in S6 and the Peaky Blinders will unite to take on the mob
I'd forgotten these seasons were only 6 episodes and had no idea I was just now watching the finale, that feeling of blue balls when Netflix suggests another show instead of counting down to the next episode
she wasn’t coerced into the marriage. Tommy made that up in his convo with Aberama. There was a convo between Tom/Pol that hinted at her not knowing it was gonna happen I think when Linda was being tended to on the table. We’re definitely supposed to think it was Michael/Polly but neither were in the room when the details were disclosed. And Michael and his fish faced wife already had a Plan B before that family meeting regardless. They did make a point to show Fish Face and Mosley checkin each other out during the ballet so Plan B def has him involved. Just not sold on them knowing all the details but maybe Polly found them out off camera. agree with the writing being a little sloppy seems like they’re force feeding the final season being Michael vs Tommy. season was still great TV and had some high points: Arthur’s acting is fantastic. And him and Tommy tag teaming the snitch scene was very good. Mosley and the Billy Boys leader are good villains. Really hated both of them in several scenes Conversation with Tom Hardy may be my favorite dialogue in the entire show.
michaels not a villain. Even at the end he’s really not trying to do wrong to Tommy kinda the opposite. Tommy is too far gone on paranoia and opium to really be rational about the idea of succession. Tommy’s painting him as a victim by spinning conspiracy theories to Arthur who should also be in the nut house. They’re forcing Michael and whoever he’s with’s hand by not being smart about the whole.... politician who deals boats of opium on the side situation.
I thought Finn fucked up by letting billy know something was going down, I thought billy was the traitor but he doesn’t know the details of the hit though.
Kinda one of those things where you know Mosley is basically Tommy from a different area and probably more powerful. Considering how much info Tommy gets funneled his way there’s probably a lot of options on how Mosley knew and to what extent each source helped
Spoiler My prediction is that Michaels wife’s family are part of the fascist party in America and she was a part of the plan the whole time. The call from billy football man was to her and she passed it along. Tommy’s season arc as going crazy in the head to the point of suicide was uncomfortable, I guess that’s a testament to the acting because it’s supposed to make you edgy, but I thought it was a departure from who we know as the character. I’m left kind of unsatisfied because we are so used to complete Tommy victories. Tommy as trapped wolf, by his enemies and by himself, is probably a necessary departure from the script to this point in order to round third and head for home in s6 and s7 with fresh legs, but until the payoff comes I’ll be a little agitated with where the story was left. Please don’t let it be two more years.
finished season 4 the Shelbys have to be the dumbest crime family in tv history. they fucking LOVE going off alone when there are a bunch of people out trying to kill them
It’s a great show, don’t fuck with the peaky blinders and get ready to see a lot of smoking and drinking. I almost can’t resist a little glass of scotch while watching this show
I just finished re-watching the series. Found it interesting that the actress playing Michael's wife was the same lead actress in Queen's Gambit
wait what!? edit - I thought she was significantly older than this (and also didn't realize Lewis was already 50)
