Idk there are playoff teams that would kill to have that center depth. ROR taking all the tough matchups makes everyone better. Get a goalie and start winning some games.
What about Sam Reinhart? He's played on the wing a lot, but was drafted as a C and wants to play C. I think he'll move to become the 2C if ROR gets traded and will do fine with Buffalo's roster getting a lot better.
MTL can’t match an offer like that, only thing Is that mtl’s first will be top 5 and not the blues. Bergevin can’t be that stupid?
tradercane In his time as interim general manager of the Bruins, Gorton most notably ran the 2006 NHL Entry Draft which produced for the Bruins Phil Kessel, Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand. At the same draft, Gorton traded goaltender Andrew Raycroft to the Toronto Maple Leafs for goalie prospect Tuukka Rask. Raycroft was coming off a subpar season and his two-year stint in Toronto would prove disastrous, with the Leafs buying him out of the final year of his contract. Rask, meanwhile, had been selected in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by Toronto and went on to win the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goaltender in the 2013-14 season.. On July 1, Gorton signed Zdeno Chara and Marc Savard as free agents. Chara would go on to win the Norris trophy in 2009 as the NHL's best defenseman while under the contract signed by Gorton. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Gorton
Sabres can’t trade him for futures. He’s a top end #2 C in his prime. They need now assets back for him. Great value back if true.
Exactly why I was excited when he was hired but he has been pretty terrible since getting the Rangers job.
Maybe he doesn't have the scouts he did then or is having trouble adapting to the way the game is being played now.
tradercane should take that well. He literally has no purpose for them other than to entertain their fans by fighting Wilson
Yeah this clown of a GM is fucking clueless. I blamed AV every time this team acquired a goon but obviously Gorton is complicit. Every article that I have read since the end of the season has focused on the Rangers needing to be harder to play against etc etc. So the Rangers didn't really suck due to lack of talent but rather not enough face punchers. Gorton is no better than Bergevin and the Rangers are headed back to the dark ages because of it.
The Rangers really think that they sucked because of lack of toughness. Who needs skill when you can just punch your way to a championship.
Lovely work by McLellan as long as he doesn't give Wilson too much. I love Jay Beagle but think we've seen the best of him.
I'd take Beagle on the Canucks for $3M for 3 years. He could mentor the young players and fill a hole at C right now until Pettersson is ready to move to C or they draft/develop a 1C.
Seems obvious Wilson wants to stay but I’m sure they’ll overpay a little. Can’t let that monster end up on another Eastern Conference roster. Lot of rival fans love to hate him but they’d be salivating at the thought of adding him to their team’s roster.
Cool with up to 4 for him, he doesn't get PP time and great on the PK but can't pay over 4 for a guy that has never had over 35 points.
Well he hasn't adapted to the current game then. GMJB went down this path by drafting Virtanen instead of Nylander & Ehlers. Then he went with skill in Boeser, Hughes, and Pettersson.
So on a Hossa buyout, the cap hit on Hossa would be 4,608.333 per year for the first 3 years, and $333,333 for the last 3 years of a buy out The actual cost would be $2M over 6 years ($333,333 per year for 6 years) So what is the fee for taking on $14,825,000 of capspace? - 2 1sts & 2nd/ B prospect, or 1st, 2nd, A prospect, or 2 A prospects & 1st, etc.
Every move this team has made so far this offseason has been terrible. Every quote I have read from Gorton, Quinn, and Clark has focused on character. Just today Clark was defending picking Andersson over Mittlestadt because Andersson has leadership qualities and is a future captain. Not one comment that he is more skilled (which he isn't). All three of these guys are in over their heads and this rebuild is off to a disastrous start so far. Am I really supposed to respect a scouting head who had Kravtsov ranked as the second best forward and would have passed on Zadina if he was available. At this point just trade away every veteran to guarantee a top 5 pick and a shot at Hughes. Then again Hughes looks like he is 12 just like his brother so the Rangers would pass on him because he doesn't look tough enough.
As long as Henrik is there and healthy the rangers won’t be a bottom feeder. The rangers need to convince him that they won’t compete in his career and try and get him to ok a move to a contender. Not sure you can commit to a rebuild with a goalie who is as talented as him. Personally i would love to see him get another chance at a real cup run. If he chooses to stay in NY though with his family I get it and there isn’t much the rangers can do.
You have to be right at the cap ceiling for him to be eligible to go on LTIR. His cap hit counts during the offseason and that's the reason the Hawks want to get rid of him now so they can make moves. Burying his contract only saves around $1M and teams would still have around $4M couny towards the cap for the next 3 years. If the Hawks trade Hossa and he retires, the Hawks are fucked.
Obviously he’d be traded to a team near the cap floor. That way they can continue to be cheap but be at the floor
They offered him the chance to leave at the deadline and he chose to stay. He knows the situation and has chosen to accept losing over the chance to win a Cup.
Kempny 4 years at 2.5M AAV is a great contract. Top four defensemen signed at least through the next three seasons.
I've read a similar situation regarding Tavares. Only difference here of course is that Tavares is an UFA and the management team that he was reportedly happy with is no longer calling the shots.
