That’s where you’re wrong. There’s nothing more that Democrats would love than some gross “bipartisan” deal on anything. Republicans can’t do that because their base has gone insane and would primary them. This is why the country keeps shifting to the right.
Thats what you think when Republicans almost unanimously vote against something as simple as background checks across the board? That they did it because 'the other side wouldn't work with them'?
So back when a large portion of this country wanted to own other people, they shouldn't have been ignored?
It's absolutely clear that the most important thing to THF here is that we don't blame the GOP for anything
What the fuck are you even talking about? The problem is the NRA. They're the one funding the polticians to make sure they do nothing. And most of those politicians are Republicans. And your opinions are shit. You are so eager to place the blame on both sides that you constantly look like an asshole in these threads. Your opinion is solely based on not taking an actual stance on anything and just being weird middle guy.
Dude I read it. Its not my job to correct you when you are wrong. People in this thread have called for it. I didn't make it up. There absolutely is a middle ground in every situation. I understand you disagree. I do not support putting more guns on the streets of any kind. I support the right of a citizen to own a gun and be held responsible for their actions with the firearm. I also feel that citizens deserve the right to own suppressors and fully automatic weapons with the correct certifications, ONGOING training, and licenses. I feel that additional legislation, closing fun show loopholes, a gun license to own and or carry a gun, and limitation on magazine size, and I honestly don't think it should be as easy to buy a gun at an Academy Sports as buying a fishing pole. Do me a favor and shut up about explaining what I want or support please. It is counter productive to a discussion. I am not hiding behind shit here. I also am in the camp that newer semi auto rifles didn't get invented in the last 10 years. Yet gun violence has skyrocketed. I agree with additional legislation but think other factors could be in play and to ignore it is short sighted and could be a mistake. I do not have the answer but I want to keep the discussion open with supporters of both sides to keep going until it is found.
Back to its all one groups fault, and dear god don't try the both sides bad. I love the blame game. It always produces so many positive and productive results. The media and the left have been blaming the R party for years now. Since Sandy Hook actually. What the fuck has that accomplished? What has been done? Not dick. This is a problem EVERY SINGLE legislator owns. You may see it as bullshit. But when has blaming people ever gotten more done people working together? I also agree the NRA has bought and paid for votes. Its deplorable. But its reality. Its the system we have. We either work around it or admit defeat. Which one do you want to do?
You understand a lot of the sensible gun legislation you have espoused in this thread has been proposed in congress yet can’t ever pass because republicans unanimously vote against said legislation. Who here would you blame for nothing passing?
In a way I agree. I think a lot of the blame lies with the tea party movement and their our way or no way mentality. I don't think they are the only guilty ones though.
how can you fucking say both sides are at fault when LITERALLY ONE SIDE OF THE AISLE REFUSES TO FUCKING VOTE FOR ANYTHING THAT THE NRA DOESN'T APPROVE
You didn't make it up, but you can't quote it? Got it. Ok, so you think people should be allowed to own suppressors and fully automatic weapons? Why exactly? For what use? We all see the negative of them. I'd like to hear your positives of people being able to own them. Convince me why they should be legal. I agree, there is middle ground. The issue is your "middle ground" is far fucking right field. A normal person sees middle ground as owning some hand guns and shotguns, but the rifles designed to kill large amounts of humans in a short period of time should be reserved for our military, not the common man. And sorry, when you're supporting fully automatic weapons, I'm not going to just shut up. I see you don't handle being questioned well, but that's a you problem. Kids are dying left and right and you want MORE powerful guns? You're the one that needs to shut up bc you're making an ass out of yourself. With every post you're showing you care more about playing GI Joe than you do kids dying.
You also understand that republicans and the nra have made it illegal for the cdc to conduct any research about gun violence in our country
Well I think that was one of the darkest points in the young history of our country, and the fact that we had to go to war as a nation to abolish slavery was a necessary evil. Again, it goes back to the difficulty in making a change to a policy which the nation was built on. But to have a tongue in cheek moment, are you willing to go to war to change the rules of who can own guns and who can't? Gun owners against those who don't? (I don't expect the military to show up in numbers to that battle since I expect a lot to be on the "gun ownership" side). Or would you rather continue to have a dialog with the goal to reduce this problem and ultimately eliminate it?
You’re right, it’s not just the Tea Party — it’s also the GOP writ large (gun control) and, to a much lesser extent, the corporate Democrats (allowing the shift).
the senators listed earlier in this thread aren't part of the tea party. they are the "mainstream" GOP which has done nothing but cuck for the NRA. but some dumbfucks in this thread don't know that
Stop blaming people. That's the problem, not the millions of semi-automatic weapons in circulation, not the people who use those weapons to kill others and certainly not the organization that goes out of its way to make sure the first two things happen over and over again. It's your fault for expecting people involved to have any sort of responsibility in the aftermath of what their actions helped cause. Focus on the real problems, jerk!
What has having dialog gotten us? It's everyone vs the NRA errrr Republicans. When one side is literally bought and paid for by the gun lobbyists, it makes having a discussion very difficult.
how can anyone see everything unfold today and not feel relentless anger as to the gun problem in this country? are you guys that fucking heartless and stupid?
Not sure why you are doing this, but when one group refuses to do the most basic thing for gun control, like say background checks, it's safe to say that they aren't willing to negotiate. No one is asking the GOP to ban guns, just take steps to make it safe for everyone, not just the rights of gun owners. You bring up Sandy Hook or Vegas, and the first thing we hear from Republicans is "now isn't the time to talk about gun control". Well when the fuck is? We're talking about 25 plus babies and 600 people shot. That's why I called your view disengeneous. You say that both sides won't budge when one side is asking to have a discussion, but the NRA won't allow their pets to even entertain it. To believe anything other than that is moronic. You've chosen to die on such an easily disprovable idea. The Right has repeatedly fought any attempt for any discussion. Take the L.
In a not sarcastic tone. We've seen elementary kids in a school get gunned down and a large group of people get gunned down because they wanted to see a music festival. If that isn't going to move the needle, I don't think it's ever going to happen. This shooting is a fucking breeze to those cocksuckers.
I'm interested to see where this goes. After Sandy Hook, CT passed some of the strictest gun laws in the country. FL is a different beast but I think guns will be a major topic going forward.
