Jason, at some point we need to talk about what happened yesterday? Do you mean when we almost got married, and then found out I was married to Janet, and then she created a fake boyfriend, who then she got rid of? Or when we saw that cool cloud? Obviously, the first one. Oh ok, cool. Hey chidi, want to hear about a cloud I saw?
Honestly he should get an Emmy nom. The guy is really good at playing that role. Dude was a hip hop dancer before getting into this role. I keep thinking they paint themselves into corners but they have made it work so far. I hope they can find a way to give me 5 or so seasons of this show.
he had a cameo on The Good Doctor playing a completely different type of character and I just couldnt get Jason out of my head
FYI, The Good Place’s twitter account follows only two other accounts: @BlakeBortles and @Jacksonville Jaguars
SB Nation: What was the inspiration for Jason? How did you guys come up with this amateur DJ from Jacksonville who masquerades as a Buddhist monk but actually turns out to be a Jaguars fan who used to sell fake drugs to high school students? Joe Mande: Well, [show creator] Mike Schur really knew a lot of what he wanted before we got into the writers’ room. He knew the twist ending and a lot about the characters. So Jason, or at the time Jianyu, was underwritten, because Mike knew he wanted the joke to be that a silent Buddhist monk was revealed to be some kind of dirtbag. When we started writing it, we were like, what’s the opposite of a silent, meditative Buddhist monk? I pitched a kind of Steve Aoki, which became that he’s definitely from Florida. So then it was, what’s the funniest part of Florida? And I had just done a show in Jacksonville with John Mulaney, and everything about Jacksonville was cracking us up. It just so happened that the circumstances were that I had just been to Jacksonville, and it had a very profound impact on me. So we started talking about Jacksonville and just made it completely cartoonish. Jason Mendoza is a pretty spot-on stereotype of Jacksonville. Yeah, it was so funny being back there [at the game] last weekend. Because with a lot of the stuff, we’re not that far off. But that said, everyone there was super cool and had a great sense of humor about it. #Jacksonville Jaguars
I'm glad i stumbled across this show on tv early in season 2. Have to go back at some point and watch the first season though.
The reveal still worked. I had assumed the show was as advertised, about Kristen bell dying and going to heaven and that Ted danson was there. I also recall seeing commercials last year where maybe Eleanor was in the good place by mistake. So when i realized the truth early on in my viewing experience i was all like, "very very interesting".
you missed out on a whole lot by starting in season 2, but i'm glad you're enjoying season 2. I just can't fathom jumping into one of the most serialized shows on tv part way through. that's crazy to me
Let me first say that I’m glad you found the show because I love it and want as many people to watch as possible. But man, if you go back and read this thread’s reaction to the twist in real time, it was fucking wild.
Love that Jason’s biggest moral dilemma was picking off the greatest QB of all-time to kick a game winning field goal with three seconds left.
I don't get how Eleanor actually passed her judgment. She realized her Chidi was a fake so she realized it was actually part of her test, and that's why she ultimately decided to not leave the others. It's not like she actually, and selflessly convinced the fake Chidi to stay and leave their fate up to the others.
She said was 99% sure that was the right decision but thought she owed it to Chidi to hear him out and it confirmed her decision when It was obviously not the real Chidi
In the words of one of my actual friends, “YA BASIC”. That’s a human insult and it’s devastating. You’re devastated right now.
Michael: "Thank you, Tahani. You've been a big help." [Lie detector box turns red.] ====================== Cracked me up!
The more I watch this show, the more it frustrates me how much the plot gets in the way of the jokes. It's a neat concept and the jokes are super funny, but watching the plot spin in circles get's tiresome. I hope they schedule into a little more of a predictable rhythm, it's a little clunky right now. Still one of the best comedies on TV right now, JMO.
