Ok, so talking about beer in the GameDay menu made me realize this is easily the best beer year I've ever had. Too much shit to list. Always been on good craft beer, but just better distribution and trips to Asheville and Louisville really made it this summer. Finally back to using untappd after having it for 4 years and barely using it. Anyways, coming in this thread to get some thoughts, advice, and other tips. Am planning a bachelor party for my buddy next spring. He's mostly wanting to do a beer trip, but possible a day hike in there too. The hiking portion is less important as there are some in the group who aren't really into that anyway (lame fuckers). Anyways, things that have been tossed around are a NE beer trip (Maine or Vermont) a Colorado trip, and possibly heading down to Tampa for Hunahpua Day. I remember in the early days of the beer thread we had some guys in FL do that, but I'm sure others have done all of this. Just wondering what TMB's thoughts were.
Milwaukee has boat tours that go from brewery to brewery and along that river there are a ton of bars and a nasty strip club that is all within walking distance to cheap hotels.
That is an interesting suggestion I would have never thought of. This is why I love tmb. Thanks, that will now be in consideration.
Yeah San Diego has been floated as well. We don't necessarily want to do Asheville again, but we may end up doing it. He's getting married in DC and feels bad about asking us to travel for his bachelor party since we're all going to have to fly for his wedding. But most of us are itching for a trip like this and don't give a fuck, it's a good enough excuse for us to do it.
I went to Huna for the first time and it was an absolute blast. It's really crowded though so keep that in mind. You guys could fly into Boston, hit Trillium, and then drive up and do Hill Farmstead / Alchemist. Say in Stowe, go on a hike around there, and drive back to Boston.
Treehouse as well, right? Although it's further out iirc. We've only had one friend go to Boston, so it's definitely on the list.
Yes, Tree House is about 60-90min West of Boston. Depending on how much time you have you could do it all.
Let me be clear, the breweries you would hit in Milwaukee aren't world class or anything but it's a great drinking town to get sloppy drunk in.
another option would be to fly into grand rapids, hit the beer scene there. drive up to traverse city, do shorts and jolly pumpkin, hike sleeping bear dunes or fly into grand rapids, hit the beer scene there and then go south to kalamazoo for more breweries and then make way to southwest michigan along lake michigan for some beautiful country, more breweries, wineries, distilleries, etc.
Drank these two delicious beers last night. Drinking some more Honey Badger tonight- tastes like a double Zombie Dust. Bare Hands is becoming one of my favorite breweries in the country and has moved up to my second favorite brewery in Indiana behind 3 Floyds- highly recommend. <imgsrc="http://i68.tinypic.com/nvv87b.jpg">
My god. I consider myself pretty tech savvy, but posting pics here is confusing me. Can someone teach my dumb ass how to TMB properly?
I buy a four pack of it every week (at least for the last 5 weeks or so)- it's delicious. Had Citrazaic earlier this week and that was great too.
I would do Boston > Vermont if you can swing it. I did that last fall (also drove up to Montreal on the same trip) and had a blast. I would say that Hill Farmstead will be a bit out of the way. As mentioned above, beer festivals can be such a shit show that I wouldn't recommend Huna.
Hill Farmstead needs it's own trip - it's too far out of the way to be a point on a trip. If you come to Boston, Trillium's right there, Nightshift is around as well & Jack's Abbey has a good spot a little outside of Boston. Treehouse's new facility is an hour out & Armsby Abbey in Worcester is a good visit from there as they always have Hill Farmstead beers. Portland, Maine is about 2 hours north in case you have multiple days - great coffee, great food & good beer places around (Bissell Brothers, Allagash, Oxbow). Deciduous brewing, outside of Portsmouth, NH, is on the way up as well.
Is there anywhere to stay by Hill Farmstead? Doesn't have to be anything commercial, just talking actual B&B's. Really want to do a trip up to Vermont/Maine between PSU games some fall with my gf who has lived in the desert all her life but I don't want to have to limit our consumption at breweries.
Where did you go in Louisville? I lived there for about a year and a half a few years ago and absolutely love the craft beer scene there.
We did bourbon trail stuff, so Maker's Mark on the way in Friday afternoon, then Buffalo Trace and Woodford Saturday. Stayed a few blocks off of Bardstown, went to a pizza place Friday and The Eagle for the family dinner Saturday night. Went to Louisville Beer store Friday afternoon after getting to our airbnb, and then made a trip to a liquor barn Saturday after dropping off our rental van. Wish we had made it a few more places, but time was a bit limited. Was a fun city though, aside from the awful smell emanating from the sewers.
Funny I got bumped in this thread today. Doing my first beer shipment today for my friend in DC. 4 bombers, ended up in a big 16x12x12 box with all the extra packing I did. Did all I could, so hopefully they make it in one piece.
Nice, it;s a pretty great area. Liqour Barns are awesome. If you ever find yourself in town again, you have to go to Sergio's World Beers. http://www.sergiosworldbeers.com/ It's basically hidden but it's filled to the brim with great beers.
I'm obv not a dude but I definitely wouldn't recommend Boston/Treehouse/Hill Farmstead for a bachelor party. You'll spend 80% of your time driving around, it's not like they're close.
Agree with leaving out the VT spots. You could do Tree House + the local Boston spots and call it good. Going out of state would just be taxing.
Haven't posted ITT in like 3 years. There are so many good beers available these days at local shops that I have officially ended all truck chasing and whale hunting (for 364 days of the year, I will still be hunting cases of Bourbon County on Black Friday). Anyway, Chicago's douchiest beer douche Chris Quinn was featured in the Trib today speaking about something very near and dear to my heart, beer and cheese pairings: http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifes...-fall-beer-cheese-dessert-20170822-story.html In it they make a "dessert pairing", an affogato of Prairie Bomb and some Chiriboga Blue. I'm not a big Blue guy, but the thought of this odd marriage has my mouth watering at 11:09 on a Thursday. Any thoughts on this? Blasphemy or Breathtaking?
Next year!!! Yeah agreed, Tree House is close enough to Boston. Could also do VT as a separate trip (that's what KJROD20 did for his bachelor party and they had a great time).
I mean you could do Hill and then hit up Burlington for Foam and BBC But Boston/Tree would probably be a better trip
Coolship Red and Resurgam in stock at Allagash rn Taking everything I got not to go crazy stocking up
Found a random 4 pack of KBS at my local supermarket. They also had M43 in great quantity for the first few weeks they were open, but I'm sure the NERDS at Beeradvocate found out about that. Anyway, yay, kbs.
Rishi's in Grand Rapids gets M43 shipments every Thursday and keeps them in the back of the walk in cooler if you're ever in the area
Beautiful out in Portland today. I'm just gonna sit on the couch, watch football and drink Casey until I can't move
Side Project is in Portland to hang out with the Oxbow crew this weekend Word is their collab is all bottle conditioned and they came up here to pick their share up and it should be released this fall. Fuck I can't wait
