Where do you find the best value for Amex points? I've got about 100,000 and want to transfer them before I cancel my platinum in July.
Just depends, they typically kill you with fuel surcharges but there are a couple ways to avoid it (ANA to Japan is one of them).
My experience is generally trying to fly business/first class international for what its worth, so not sure how economy awards are but ANA is my favorite amex transfer partner. One of the better award search functions and you can search all of Star Alliance through them. I generally start with them. Korean air is very good for award availability if you're going to asia and they let you hold fares until you can transfer miles. Singapore is another transfer partner I've had success using but you're pretty much locked into singapore metal only I believe. I don't think you can book partner flights through them. I actually have a lot of Virgin Atlantic points from flying them over the years and have never been able to find a flight to use them on so they just sit there. I wouldn't transfer to them unless you are sure there is something available. I don't mind paying fuel surcharges which are usually high but I've literally never been able to find a date with award availability.
Citi Advantage 50,000 miles offer nothing special? I'm near a hub but have no idea what 50k miles is worth Arkadin
50k is good but they've cut a fuck load of availability. Some people report literally 0 availability on reddit and flyer forums from hubs. Though ohhaithur has sent me some stuff from smaller airports. But the consensus is they've become hard as fuck to use
they have like 4 gates in my city Austin (my home) so ill play around and see if there is anything worse the hassle. Thx
You can cycle those cards like crazy. They'll pay you the bonus repeatedly over different cards and you can rack up a ton of points in a year or two, but they've destroyed availability
This. Citi AA Platinum 50k + Barclays AA Aviator 40k = easy 90k points in 1 swoop. Rinse and repeat the Citi card (there's always a link that is missing the bonus limiting language)
About to just save them for domestic flights. Seem to find decent ones. Plenty of places I haven't been here in the states.
Discover's 5% category this quarter is home improvement stores and wholesale clubs. I'm not going to spend $1,500 there so I'm looking at the gift card route. My lowes store only has Visa and MasterCard gift cards in increments of $100 or less with fees of $4-6. The retail gift cards they have aren't places I'd go either really. Any tips on fee-less gift cards that are versatile like cash or can somehow be converted?
Just used my $500 travel credit on my arrival plus. Actually ended up with $575 after all the purchases to get the sign up bonus. Taking a little 4 day cruise in a few weeks. Underrated card for the sign up bonus imo.
which is worth more? Their website doesn't make pt values clear.... 40,000 hyatt pts or 2 free nights at any hyatt property?
The top properties are 30 thousand points. https://world.hyatt.com/content/gp/en/rewards/free-nights-upgrades.html
2 nights at a category 5 is worth 40k If you stay at a cat 6/7, the 2 free nights is better If you don't plan to use it at one of the cat 6/7, the 40k is the better option
I just got this targeted offer as well. I can transfer the 70k miles to Chase rewards at a 1:1 ratio, correct? And if I did so, I could transfer them to my CSR where they would then be worth 1.5x if I booked through Chase rewards? So they'd be worth 105k miles?
No. These miles you earn are in your United account, and you can't transfer from United to Chase, only Chase to United. 70k is still very valuable on United, there are plenty of round trips to Europe for 60k
Not sure I understand the question. Do you mean do you still login to the Chase website to make payments/see account activity? If so, then yes, it's still a standard Chase card in that regard. The card is just tied to your existing United MileagePlus account, so it tracks your points through there instead of Ultimate Rewards like your Sapphire Reserve
Speaking of good customer service, the number on the back of my csr is probably the first customer service number I've had where I talk with a real person without pressing any buttons. It caught me by surprise the first time I called.
Hey credit card folks. I'm rebuilding (went from 550-650 in the last year or so). Anyone else in the same range have success with a decent travel rewards card? I imagine the options are pretty slim at that range, and the credit card sites are all pretty vague on if I'd likely qualify.
Chase Freedom might be a good place to start, although you would eventually need to get a Chase Sapphire Preferred to convert the cash-back points into travel points.
More of a banking question (disclaimer, I haven't googled it yet) but is there a reason why I should take Chase up on the offer for Chase private client that is flagged in my app.
Chase Sapphire has been a godsend. Just booked round trip from DFW to Kilimanjaro airport in Tanzania for 160,000 points. Would've roughly been $2700 for two tickets and that's in coach
Currently hold Chase Sapphire Preferred and Freedom Unlimited (transferring those points to the CSP) Most logical next step would be to apply for the Chase Sapphire Reserve, downgrade my CSP to a Freedom for the rotating categories, correct?
Too me 5 mins (inc. hold time) to get a 300$ statement credit as a retention offer on my Amex Platinum. Boy they are desperate to hold on to cardholders..
It's wonderful. On a similar note, the amex plat concierge hooked me up with a Friday 7pm reservation 2 weeks from now at Girl & the Goat.
Platinum Concierge is pretty nice when you need it. Was able to get Hamilton tickets before they went on sale for LA. Same tickets that cost me $190 are already $800+ online.
Platinum Amex coming through for me right now. Free towing or roadside assistance 4x a year. Car wont start so getting a free tow to the dealership right now.
Currently have chase sapphire preferred. Use it all expenses and pay it off. We get enough points to discount flights throughout the year. (Mainly trips to see family- where we book on several different airlines) I just had my credit ran today and have 814. With a high credit score, is there a better travel rewards card I should be looking at? Chase reserve?
MIL and wife are traveling to Vegas this summer. MIL never uses/keeps a credit card but wants one to rack up a bunch of cash back just for this trip. Anyone know of any good offers currently?
Not in the signup bonus world, but if you're USAA eligible that 2.5% card is the best bet I believe for cash back
http://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase...-credit-calendar-year-cardmember-year-may-21/ If you're debating getting the CSR, do it this week
Chase Preferred: if she can spend $4,000 in three months then she will earn 50,000 points, which is equivalent to $500. However, there will be a $95 annual fee after the first year. Another bonus is that you get 2X the points on restaurants and traveling. Discover: I think it's about a $100 bonus right now, but their 5% cash back category for June 15- Sept 15 is at restaurants, which she may spend the most at while in Vegas. Also, there's no annual fee. Chase Freedom Unlimited: $150 sign up bonus and 1.5% cash back on everything. These are just a few off the top of my head.
