These town halls are beautiful. We'll see if this lasts, but there hasn't been this type of grass roots upspring on the left in 45-50 years. People are off the sidelines. Arkansas has given 20%, 24%, and 27% victory margins to McCain, Romney, and Trump. Senator Tom Cotton just got run out of his own town hall. Is you is or is you ain't my constituency?
I think the death penalty is counterproductive and should be eliminated for a variety of reasons. But I also think some monsters like Timothy McVeigh need to be put down. There is no way to write a law that covers my personal brand of justice, so I'm fine with eliminating it.

They literally have nothing. Build a wall, ban muslims, and repeal anything with Obama's name on it. They control the House, Senate, and Presidency, but are running like a minority opposition party.
It's not about murderers. Fuck them. I condemn them every time. They have forfeited their right to this life. I am completely indifferent to them. For what remains beyond them, I think it is counterproductive to argue about which murders are just. A society that can have civil discussions about which killings are acceptable or unacceptable inevitably approves of killing in justifiable situations. So then it is acceptable for reasonable people to have their own interpretation of reasonable killings. My opinion is that is an unhealthy position for a just society to put itself into.

Perez is the obvious choice. My dad saw him speak a few months ago and has raved since. Ellison and Harrison are both good as well. Pete is only 35 and needs to hone his craft some but knowing the guy personally I want him thrust into the national spotlight asap. As someone here said I'd almost rather see him work into a house or senate seat and set up for an executive spot down the line.

I'm heartened by the Virginia Democrats for hustling to recruit candidates to run in all the districts Clinton won. The left has more people, but lack of focus. Everyone finds their topic paramount and would rather argue with people on priority of objectives than focus on the larger goal. I have no idea what the Republican party is offering to anyone under 50. We have far better ideas, and we need a better messenger.
Every republican under the age of 50 gets to enjoy the same benefits as republicans over the age of 50, liberal tears, the nectar of the gods. Also they get to be part of a group that makes them feel tough and that's enough for them.

I think you'll find that many of them are a bit more accepting of reasonable taxes now, having seen what is happening with Oklahoma and Kansas. The townhalls show a pretty strong skew "left" now, even though really it's just anti-kleptocracy and pro-You-were-elected-on-faith-that-you-would-do-your-fucking-jobs-you-assholes.
