Molinaro and Asgarov have history, just wrestled in July. Frank 4-pointed him on a double and led 4-0 at break but then tried to cruise in the 2nd and gave up (lol) 5 pushout pts to lose. The final pushout was with 4 seconds to go in the match.
Goziumov beats Yazdani 2-1 in a grueling match, becomes the favorite in the lower half of the bracket with Boltukaev out. Goziumov beat Snyder earlier this year.
Frank loses 10-0 to Asgarov. World Champ Frank Chamizo on the mat next to him is down 3-0 with less than a minute left to Iakobishvili, but gets two pushouts and then a takedown with 15 seconds left to survive. Bad news for Molinaro because he needs Asgarov to win to get pulled back into repechage. Chamizo has looked ordinary today and Asgarov is looking world class, I think Asgarov can do it.
That was debauchery and scandal at its finest. I feel bad for Gomez, he just got fucked unlike any of us will ever be fucked in our lives
Snyder over Saritov 7-0, but I can't stop thinking about UZB-Puerto Rico We blatantly saw that play out LIVE. The review referee signaled 2 Blue not once but TWICE!!! Then another ref says no both times, and somehow they end up voting for two RED? It should have been four blue. But 2 red there absolutely stinks of corruption. I feel terrible for that kid. I hope there is some kind of review or investigation. That shouldn't happen, but...not surprised.
Cael Sanderson Verified account@caelsanderson Franklin Gomez got straight up cheated. What a shame and disgrace.
The confusion and disorganization of that table was amazing. They looked like they had no protocol for review and it was just a "well what do you think who cares just pick one" type thing as if it were trivial.
Apparently the ref that intervened in the Gomez match has been up to a whole lot of fuckery this weekend.
I don't know protocol, but I'm pretty sure that's NOT it. Pretty sure that one ref that got involved was not supposed to be involved in the process at all.
https://twitter.com/Richard_Immel/status/767352141405163520 Richard Immel @Richard_Immel Word circulating that the 3 officials in the Gomez debacle have been tossed.
The three officials involved in the Gomez rape have been dismissed, apparently. Good riddance, but unfortunately no justice for Gomez who has his olympic dream stolen from him.
Gutsy win from Ukraine, down 2-0, gets a take down and injures his knee badly in the process. Gets another takedown and review point for a 5-2 win. Limping heavily. Boltukaev's podium hopes still alive.
WOW great finish in Asgarov-Chamizo! Asgarov takedown with 15-20 secs left to win! Being challenged but it will stand an Asgarov win. Frank gets brought back in to repechage
Asgarov-Chamizo was everything I hoped it might be, wow. The top of this weight is STACKED. Asgarov looks to be back to his 2012 form where he was probably the best overall freestyler but Romonov is wrestling like a madman too. Snyder has a shot, Okizadze is like a Gayzumov-light opponent(not an insult, just not as good as Gayzumov is one of the all time warriors at this weight). Two full on 'man-strength guys' in his way. Andriitsev came out of nowhere, just like 2012, but it's hard to see him beeing Gayzumov on the balky knee
FYI, last time they wrestled Snyder needed a last second takedown for the win. Odikadze is really big and tough.
Ramonov at 65 is looking VERY good. So is Asgarov, but he appears to have injured his wrist during the Molinaro match.
